had my buddy pump once and hold, cracked the bleeder then pushed in the piston on the slave. did this a few times till all the air was out.

now here is my question, how far does the piston move on the slave when bled and working correctly? 1/2", 1" or more?

Bleeding the system is only half of the equation. I assume you recently replaced the slave/master/installed a new clutch? Once the system is bled, you must properly adjust the master cylinder/pedal assembly. There are a few tests to perform, and having the system properly adjusted is the difference between a smoothly operating transmission/drivetrain, and a set of worn synchros and a big, fancy paperweight.

Once your certain youve bled the system adequately, adjust the slave throw like so: click (click drivetrain, then adjustment midway down the page)

This is also helpful: click

Once that is taken care of, you will be 100% good to go.

Hope that helps!
