Does anyone use one? How has it held up? Any issues with leaking?

Reason why I ask is because I just pulled my pan again and using RTV to seal it is such a huge pain in the ass for taking it off, cleaning it, putting new stuff on, etc. Why can't dropping the pan be as easy as my camaro? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Its easy to clean the old rtv out of the groove with a soft wire brush on an air tool or drill. Put on a new bead and start the bolts until the rtv starts to set and then torque them to spec.

I know its a PITA to take it off and on but this is something you should only have to do once so its no big deal.

I've heard stories both good and bad with using a gasket. My advice would be to try it once and see what you think. It's a little time & work to pull it again if it doesn't work out for you.

Two ways that have worked for me.

1. Use the gasket. But also use a spray type gasket sealer/adhesive on both sides of the gasket.

2. Use the rtv that is branded "right stuff". This can be used with or without the gasket. I agree that a bit of time between applying the rtv and torqueing the bolts is required for leak free results. About 15 minutes is good.

You'll never get a good seal if your pan is distorted. Lay it upside down on a strong flat surface and check the sealing surface. If it is bent, pound it flat or replace the pan.
