Lug nut pattern

I am trying to buy racing steelies for my 1991 VR4 570/2000. I want to make sure I get the right wheels. I've read that people put 16s on, but the actual specs that I found are 17x8.5 5x114.3. Do racing wheels need to be smaller or is it preference? I also am not sure if that is even the right spec so if someone knows the correct spec I would appreciate it.

if you have 5 lugs its 5x114.3, but stock these came as 4 lug 4x113.4, as far as height and width, 18 is the biggest most of us will go, i personally stop at 17 and the width will all depend on offset. it all depends on the racing your doing...
