Facelift gauges on ore facelift

There's alot of conflicting information out there, I've got a 1987 jdm vr4 and the gauge cluster is cooked, some people say only the pre facelift clusters with the colour change button only work with them and some say they all just plug in, could anyone please clarify?

You will want the pre-facelift cluster, I believe there are some wiring differences between the two.
