Extra alternator wire?

I am putting my alternator back in and I notice that there is an extra alternator wire. It looks like a "bullet" female type. I have already connected the ring connector for the ground and the 2 prong connector. Any idea what this is for?

Thanks

It plugs in somewhere on the top of the alternator as it sits in the car. Right below the power steering pump if I'm remembering right. I can take a look at home once I get off work and possibly get you a picture if you cant figure it out.

Thanks, I thought that it was for the PS pump. I had a flashback from many years ago. There is also a wire down there that was cut. I am guessing that it was for the stock oil pressure sender. The previous owner installed an aftermarket digital pressure oil sender and gauge. Maybe that is it.

Weird thing is that the harness looks like it is too short to reach the pump. Don't worry about looking at the wire though.

Thanks

I knew it was in that region somewhere.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif........ good luck making it reach/finding it.

The power steering pump sends a signal to the ECU telling it to raise the engine idle speed slightly to help ensure that the load from turning the steering wheel at stopped/low speeds doesn't stall the motor.

Squeeze the bullet connector a little bit with some pliers and it will hold on to the nipple pretty well.
