I decided to remove my cruise control and install a N/T throttle cable from a 1.8 N/T since mine did not work. I know i've seen a couple of threads where people have asked about this or done it but no one has really posted pics. I've even tried several searches before hand to make sure I wasn't mistaken. This took about 10 minutes or so to do. I apologize for some of the pics being blurry, took the pic with my iphone. Hope this helps anyone looking to do this in the future.
Parts needed:
N/T throttle cable (I bought mine thru Rockauto.com)
10mm socket
screwdriver or small prybar
I started the removal at the throttle body and pulled the cable from there and unbolted the two bolts on the intake manifold.
I than removed two bolts from the canister that sits behind the strut tower.
Two bolts holding the throttle cable at the firewall.
now crawl under the dash and use the screwdriver/prybar to pop the cable loose(push up) from the gas pedal.
now pull the cable back thru the firewall. The cruise control assembly is held on to a bracket by three bolts.
four bolts secure the bracket to the firewall.
Quite a bit of room made from this removal. Not having cruise control does not bother me as I have a Evo VIII and have made several long distance trips in it, including cross country from San Diego to NC.
Install of the cable is pretty much reverse of the removal. It will loop around the intake manifold. I ran mine so it will be under the IC piping.
