So, I've jumped on the wagon and decided to do this...
My carpet is brewing away in a plastic tub in the basement as I write.
For me, the closest thing to a rock was a concrete block.

While the carpet is out, I went ahead and replaced the padding underneath (the stock padding is glued to the back of the carpet, and will have to be peeled off). I bought the padding from Lowes; it's called OdorBan II. It has some sort of mold/mildew/odor resistant substance in it. I used the old padding as a pattern for cutting.

I'll post up some pics of the final results when the brew is done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Ok, it's done. To make a long story short, the carpet looks fantastic. It's a shiny black color now. All of the wear faded areas are gone.

If this holds up like it's supposed to, this is an awesome $15 mod.
