Or is this a 6-bolt G4CS with the letters 4G64 stamped on it? My understanding is that there is no such thing as a 6-bolt 4g64. But I've been through the bottom of this thing. It's a 6-bolt. It has a 86.5mm bore, and it's not a wide block 'cause it has the same transmission pattern as my 2.0. The picture is a bit hard to make out 'cause the surface corrosion has just about wiped the letters clean off but I'm fairly certain it reads 4G64. What do you think?

You can get a 4G64 in a 6 bolt. A lot of them are the G4CS like you mentioned, but you can find them in some Mitsu's. I had 2 of them.

I was under the impression that the 4g64 stamp implied a wideblock. Now I'm reading through the ProjectZeroG stuff and it looks like the 91/92 Expo vans had a narrow block 4g64 6-bolt. click I guess I'll have to stop flaming people who talk about building a 4g64.

But for piece of mind, If the 4 transmission holes that I use to attach this block to my engine stand are the same pattern as the 2.0 that came off the the engine stand, then it's a narrow block right? If it were a wide block I'd have had to adjust the bracket to match the different pattern(?).

4g64 stamp implied a 6mm higher deck height. That's it.

Your stock trans would not bolt up if it was a wide block.

12.5 inches = Narrow, 13.25 inches = Wide

Not sure what bracket your talking about, but I don't think its that simple.

^^ Sorry, yeah that was confusing. I didn't actually bolt my trans up to it. But, in order to mount the motor on a stand you have to arrange the stand so that the 4 "arms" each attach to the 4 bolt holes that are normally used to attach the transmission. So, once that's done, the engine stand becomes a jig for how the transmission attaches. Since the stand was set up for my 2.0, and attached to the 2.4 w/o adjustment, I assume that this is a narrow block. And given the numbers you just mentioned, this is definitely narrow. ~12.5" between the bottom two transmission bolts.

I agree that 2.4 means 6mm taller, but it is also usually associated w/ 7-bolts whereas G4CS is usually associated with 6-bolts.

You can use your spacer/starter shim plate that goes in between the engine block and transmission as a go-no go gauge. If all the 4 mounting holes line up with the block....then congrats, you found a narrow block 4g64
