Jon was a different sort rough around the edges but no one can ever say he wasn't solid... and always ready to kick you into position ....prayers to his wife Faye

Oh no, definitely remember him and had some conversations through the years, although it had been awhile. Seemed like a knowledgeable guy and also enjoyed talking 'shop' with him (even if not car-related). Sorry to hear this, especially for his wife/family/friends.

[EDIT - BTW, where have you been Curtis?]

I received the call a couple days ago too. I spoke with him last in December, but he was cryptic and told me his life had gotten "complicated". I did not suspect he meant something terminal. I feel bad I didn't follow up again after that. I always intended to visit him on my way to my brother's house in Arizona.

He was a wealth of knowledge, and many times went all over the country rescuing these cars.

I'll miss you John.

Never met him but he bothered to call me to help me, a total stranger through a no start issue many years ago. Condolences

Goddamnit.

Just got the call from Faye this morning. @Curtis1 you've got DM.

Sounds like John had 17 and a half GVR4s. 4-6 of them are in running or almost-ready-to-run condition, and she's got an entire trailer full of spares and secondhand performance parts. A freaking STEAL at $25k if you ask me. $4k per complete car x 5 cars = $20k and enough spares and shells to probably put together another 3-4 easily.

I reminded her that John told me he would rather see them stacked and burned to the ground before they go to the assholes. I feel like this is Bring a Trailer territory, but figure we could charge admission for the celebration of life and throw our Toybreaker the ultimate viking funeral.

John went fast with class. I'm glad I got to meet him.

What shitty news.

My interactions with him weren't much but he did provide a lot of great information and knowledge that helped me with my GVR4.

Like most of you that has replied to this thread we are OG's and as we get older and we start losing people we knew , it really puts in perspective of our mortality and life isn't forever.

My condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in eternal peace.
