4-Bolt Junkyard removal w/ pics

I know there is a how-to but the picture links are broken so I figured this may help. The cost from pick&save was under $100 out the door including the axle cups and all.

Tools:
14mm wrench x2
17mm wrench
17mm socket
27mm Socket
long pry bar

Step 1: Remove the drive shaft to differential bolts.
Step 2: Remove the axle to spindle bolts with the 2 14mm wrenches and wiggle the axles out of the way.

Step 3:With your new $10 socket from Sears remove the axle cup nut. You will need to either put on the parking brake or put the pry bar between the wheel lugs so that it hits the ground when turning the axle cup nut.

Step 4:Remove the two 17mm bolts on either side of the differential.

Step 5: Remove the two 17mm bolts on the rear of the differential using the 17mm socket.

Step 6: Remove the two long bolts on top of the differential with the 17mm wrench.

I would not recommend lying underneath the differential as you remove the last two bolts. It weighs a little over 50lbs. I just put one arm under it to lower it down slowly. I would also recommend bringing some PB blaster or WD-40 since I had to really hammer on every bolt to get them loose.

It's much easier to get the upper bolts if you simply remove the nuts holding the upper shock towers, then let the suspension droop so you can reach those bolts easily.

I dragged mine out for the old Pick and Pull in WA for $100. What a time that was sticking it in the wife's old Mazda 626...

i paid 150 for the entire rear subframe with hubs and rotors /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif
