2G power steering set up on your GVR4

I've got a lot of 2g stuff laying around so tonight i decided to toss the 2g power steering pump etc on the car. I guess just for the sake of looking newer and to be a little different? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I'm a ricer, i know.

so far i have, 2g exhaust manifold, o2 housing, 2g trans, 2g slave cylinder, 2g injector clips and now 2g power steering pump. lol.

yeah, hence the sensor on the top of pump.

the sensor see's pressure and raises your idle.
the cutout is mechanical

where as it reduces the effect of the power steering pump itself as speed either speed or RPM's is increased, i cant remember which it is but it's supposed to make the wheel feel heavier at higher speeds making the car feel more stable and at lower speeds allow the wheel to turn freely for easy parking lot manuevering

luke is speaking of the horrible PS cutout that occurs in racing situations mostly, where the pump cuts out causing extremely stiff steering for a second. I forgot what the cause was, but someone else could probably explain.

found on the talon digest about a guys 95 DSM:

Wonder why i couldnt just simply remove the spring.. hmm

the p/s cut is a huge pain in the ass in an autocross or in the snow when you are revving the engine and trying to turn.
i guess i'll just shove washers in mine too.
i like the aluminum pump though, i'll keep my eyes open for one.

i wonder if the 2g alternator is just as big of a piece of crap as the 1g one?

Yup, alternator is just as big a POS as it is on the 1g's

if you need a 2g PS pump i've got another entire assembly. lol. Pump, both pulley's, bracket. The only thing wrong with it is that sensor has the pin broke off it.

I've experienced that at high RPM heading into a corner and it feels like the steering wheel is set in concrete. This occurs in both 1G and 2G and the spools are different, but the fix is the same. Pull out the spool valve and insert a ring about 1/8 inch long cut off some hard tubing you have sitting around. After doing this the problem never came back. I found the info by Googling "RPM power steering cut out" or something like that.

nah, you can do it on the car. just take the nut, then the stud out of the top.
i've actually read into this already, just haven't done it yet.
plus my p/s pump is every so slightly weeping fluid.

I would think you could do it in the car. Since I wasn't sure how to dimension the ring and didn't want a lot of downtime while I screwed around with it I bought a used pump for $15 fixed the cutout on that one then swapped it in.

need:
-2g inner water pump pulley to drive the power steering pump
-2g PS pump
-2g PS pump bracket
-2g belt .5 inches shorter than stock. I believe it's a 27in belt.

i wonder how much power gain will the the 2g one makes due to the fact its a rib belt ( v belt robs power )
