The consensus is that they typically can't handle much past 400 hp, unsure of torque, but it really comes down to how you drive it. If you baby it, you can probably go further, but if you shift like a moron or launch hard it's gonna go out wayyy faster.

I've been in a DSM that had a 1st gear GVR4 (taller) and it broke with a clutch dump. If you want to do high RPM clutch dumps, than a shorter 1st gear might be better.

If your willing to slip the clutch, not go for aggressive dumps, than the stock transmission isn't really a weak point. The rear axles with stock suspension and hard launches might be more of a weak point than the transmission.

How you drive it is going to matter more than your HP/torque number. I don't think anything is going to break with spirited driving unless you hit a LOT of power.

Remember that transmissions and axles and clutches don't care about horsepower (A made up calculated number) only torque. 350 lb/ft at 5252 rpm is 350HP and the trans will be fine. 350 lb/ft at 10504 rpm is 700 hp and the trans will still be fine.

400ish lb/ft is my personal limit for longevity.

And how you drive it does make a large difference. Shocking the drivetrain is a great way to break stuff.
