I am ready to sell now!

THE BAD: I blew the head gasket on the motor. The car still runs. There is NO mixing of oil and water, just looses compression once warmed up and cannot drive more than 20MPH. I have not had time to fix this yet. Therefore the sale price is OBO depending on what the buyer is planning to do with the car. If you are a SERIOUS BUYER then we can discuss fixing the motor.

PRICE IS $7,500 OBO
I am open to any RESONABLE offers.

I will start parting out the accessory/extra parts on the car until it is sold. For example HKS CAMS, Rims, Stereo and so forth.

I have owned this for over 16 years. This was KC's car (Iowa) and I have spoiled this car! I bought the car from KC with just over 90k miles, and now just over 137k miles on it.

Over 16 years, have basically replaced everything! I am selling because cannot pass SMOG in CA anymore. The other reason is I am a father now with a 4 year old. Do not have time or money to continue this project at the moment.

The car has always been garaged.

Currently just using the car for fun at Autocross a few times in the past year. Otherwise, the car has never been on a track, just used for driving around town.

Cannot remember ALL the specs over the past 16 years, but since I bought from KC have done the following in order from most recent:

DETAILING - Professionally detailed with Cquartz coating on paint & all interior! (Spent $1,500.00)

ENGINE - Replaced motor with USED JDM motor that I had refreshed, valve job, new rings, timing belt, etc... Stock motor. Was replaced at about 100k miles. Work was done by my friend at Mitsubishi dealer.

TURBO - 20G and I believe I rebuilt the turbo after I bought the car from KC, but been a long time ago.

FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER & OIL COOLER

EXHAUST - EVO Exhaust Manifold, Custom 3" O2 Housing with HKS Wastegate installed, 3" all
the way back with high flow cat and Apexi Muffler... I am assuming it is a complete Apexi Exhaust? Have to ask KC.

FUEL - Replaced Fuel pump and fuel filter after a shop did not know how to tune the HKS VPC & SAFC and would not let me tune myself for liability reasons. They said it was running lean and to start with replacing that and then replace the VPC with something else they had there! Trying to sell me. So, just ran car @ Stock 5-7 psi on the 20G turbo. RC 550 injectors.

TRANSMISSION - Replaced with TRE Stage 3 Transmission and 5k miles on it. Also had a custom clutch installed at the same time from Southland Clutch in San Diego, CA... Not sure of exact specs. Just told them it needs to hold 500HP.

SUSPENSION - GC Coil Over Kit... AGX.

HUBS - Had almost all wheel hubs replaced with DEALER hubs as the wheel bearings were going a few years back.

STEREO - Will remove upon sale, unless you like what I have... Will discuss at final sale. Upgraded in 2006 and in 2013.

ELECTRONICS - HKS VPC w/ 550 chip & Apexi SAFC. Apexi AVC Electronic Boost controller. HKS Turbo Timer.

MISC NOT INSTALLED - Extra set of 17" rims and tires (used for Autocross), HKS 264/272 CAMS never installed, Scattershield, Catch Can, and more...

I am sure I am missing a bunch of stuff, but the pictures will give you a good idea, and will get more details if you are SERIOUSLY interested. Do not have the time right now to get all the exact details... If KC remembers from 16 years ago he might chime in.

PM me if SERIOUS and then we can talk firm pricing.

A few things:

Mitsubishi Mortors?

Very nice car.

So it needs a tune, are you saying you've been driving it untuned this whole time?

Which wheel hubs were replaced? You said almost all.

I'm located just an hour north of you and do not register my cars in California. That being said. I'm going to PM you an offer that is offensively low compared to $20,000. Your choice to open that pm or not

Hi Jathan - The car brings back a lot of memories. She has been taken care of well and I am glad to have sold it to you. Sorry I am not in a position to buy it. But, I hope she goes to good home here...

Suspension - The KYB AGX combo was brand new and installed a few months before I sold it to you, Jathan. Now, what I don't remember is if the rear springs are TEL springs or GVR-4 springs. I remember having an issue with setting height, but don't remember if I replaced the rear springs or not.

Paint - The car had a complete re-paint before I sold it. Cost about $4000 or so, but covered by insurance. They also replaced the tailights. It is a clean title, was not salvaged by the paint job etc. That's when the wing was put on the car. Now, back then, I was younger, more of a ricer (well, I still drive Hondas, so I am still a ricer, I guess) but back then, I thought it was cool. Anyone can buy it and remove it if need be. AMG wing would look good on it.

Turbo - Back then, the 20G was considered a big turbo and more for race use (how things have changed). It has a HKS GT wastegate welded on to a 2G manifold, I think.

Gauges are westach, FMIC, intake and piping were all done by Shannon (RIP, brother). Really, Shannon, Lambert and I worked on this car over spring break week and that's where I really learned to wrench. One of the big reasons why the car holds a lot of sentimental value.

All in all - for the late 90's, it was a pretty awesome build.

Also, I believe it was a 1 owner car when I got it. The previous owner was a doctor of some sort, I think. I bought it from Charles Gabus Ford in Des Moines, Iowa. I am sure carfax will provide more details. Its not been passed around like other cars especially with Jathan owning it for so long.

Any other questions people have about the car, I can help answer as best as I can.

Exhaust wise - It has a 3" downpipe and custom turbo-back with a 3" Apexi N1 muffler. Its not a full apexi exhaust. Downpipe may have come from mofugas maybe - It does have the wastegate re-circ'd back in.

I did make a few passes on this setup - I think I ran a low 12 sec or high 11 sec pass and got kicked out for no cage.

Regarding the paint job - To be clear, a bunch of us came to Des Moines from Ames to go clubbing and street racing. When we came back out, 3 of our cars has been vandalized - my gvr4 and 2 3000GT's - one SL and one VR-4. They had dumped some sort of chemical or paint stripper on it which took the paint all the way down to metal. It also ate through my tailights. I remember driving back home, it started to rain and paint from my hood was flying off like molting skin. I was so upset. Anyways, that got me a brand new paint job. This car was never in an accident any time that I owned it and is a clean title.

Just FYI, there have been some very high quality builds that have sold here for far less than what you're asking. You're entitled to ask whatever you want for your stuff, but trending sales of comparable VR4s don't yield half that asking price.

If you want 20k out of this thing, start by improving your ad. The professional photos are nice, but they are dark and the angles are limited; they don't do anything for a serious buyer who actually wants to see the condition of the vehicle. If you are serious about attracting a buyer who's willing to drop 20K on a VR4, you may want to take current high resolution photographs of every inch of the vehicle. The classic requests for photos of common problem areas include the undercarriage, behind the front fenders and engine bay where the battery is.

It's been said time and time again, good pictures sell cars. GLWS.

Yeah, I didn't care for the "Mitsubishi Motors" either. I had my friend take the pictures and that is what he gave me! I told him I want the ORIGIANL picture and still waiting on it.

The car was "tuned" by KC. See his post and he ran 11-12 sec 1/4 mile with the car and got kicked out because with those high speeds you are supposed to have a roll cage. What I meant was I went to DYNO the car and the shop said the car was running lean... Again this was 11 years later and so I replaced the fuel pump that was 11 years old! It has the Walbro 255.

There was 1 wheel hub not replaced, because they said it was in good condition. We bought the wheel hubs NEW from the dealer. I do not like to buy used parts! Everything is NEW on the car.

That said... I put the price HIGH as a FEELER as I am trying to find the right buyer that will take care of it like I have. In the meantime, I will be using this car for autocross until I can figure out another plan.

I appreciate everyone's feedback!

That you for the advice! I am soooo busy right now... That is why I posted as FEELER and Not FS.
So, I may not post for a few days but will try to check in every few days.

I wanted to put up some basic pictures and if someone was serious, then I will invest more time to take pictures or show the car. Again, I am so busy thru the end of this year as I am sure everyone else is too.

Again, this is a FEELER looking for the right buyer at the moment. If I need to sell QUICKLY then I will take more pictures as you suggested and sell it.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. For 14 years of owning the car, I am now finally posting stuff on this forum and love the teamwork here! You guys know your stuff.

For $20k I will throw in the stereo and deliver the car to your front door!
This is why I hate email, text and forums... What happened to talking on the phone and less misunderstandings.

If you are SERIOUS about buying the car, them PM me.

I want to use the stereo in my daily driver if the buyer is not crazy about it. KC did the same thing when I bought the car. I would rather the new buyer install the stereo that he/she LOVES.

I know, as KC mentioned not crazy about the wing, but never found another one I liked and so therefore just kept it on the car. Thought about no wing at all and keep it a sleeper?
