Is a BW EFR 7670 viable for a GVR4 while still keeping A/C

I had a buddy ask me if a 7670 BW EFR would fit on a GVR4, especially if you maintain A/C. I had no idea and was hoping to illicit some discussion from .org. Anyone have any Idea on the dimensions and fitment of a large turbo like that? Anyone try a test fit or anything???
Thanks in advance!!!

I haven't run one, but I know from seeing them that the EFR turbo's are "extra" big because of the built in wastegate and BOV. If you can measure it out, a S300 series Borg Warner will fit with A/C and P/S. Might need a custom manifold/downpipe though.

Don't have one but I talked to a vendor extensively about fitting the 7064 to a Galant. You might get away with a stock manifold but you will definitely need a custom downpipe because of the flange. I'm still not totally convinced it will fit with the stock condenser. I think you could retain A/C but you might need to use a different condenser and fan setup. That was how I kept my A/C with the Holset HX35/40.

Was your Holeset in a BEP housing or a T3? I fit my HX-40 with the stock condenser and a big aluminum radiator, this was done with BEP housing. I didn't have to change my A/C fan just my main fan becaue of the FP intake pipe.

BEP Housing. We couldn't get it to fit. I was using a DNP header, I don't know if that made a difference. Used a custom condenser and a Honda Integra Type R fan.

Have you considered a water/air IC? Should free up the space needed for the piping of a traditional FMIC.

Do you have any idea on the actual dimensions of these turbos? I can't find anything anywhere /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I agree due to the flange that a custom downpipe would be needed. I live relatively close to English Racing and ETS and figured one of them could help with that. I want to try and run the Twin scroll version so I would have to get a T4 flanged manifold...although I am sure If I wanted to I could reflange an FP or stock manifold...hmmmm

Download the "BorgWarner EFR Turbochargers Technical Training Guide" PDF just under the first main table and go to pages 105-112. It's not completely comprehensive but it gives you a pretty good idea.

you have to get the external gated one and I've been told its possible with the EWG.

That's why your HX-40 didn't fit cheeky the DNP manifold, I was running the FP manifold. If memory sereves me correct there was a thread on tooners about the different fitment when running a holset turbo and different manifold, certain manifolds pushed the turbo closer to the block or farther from the block.

fwiw I've asked English Racing, Full-Race, and JMF if the 8374 would fit a t4 twinscroll top mount similar to the one JMFab built for Cory's (i think that's his name) car with the GT35R and be able to retain the A/C and they said it should be able to.

be warned... a beast is in the making... 2.2L 2gAuto efr8374

That will be scary...I thought I was going big with my plan to do 2.3L with a built tranny and a 7670...

That's too bad. One of the reasons this turbo line is so cool is because of their new Internal W/G tech.

I had a s362 with an internal gate on a BEP housing bolted to a 2nd gen manifold. I used the power steering pump to mount the actuator and worked fine with a scirocco radiator but it was sitting where the condenser was. I believe you could pull this off just take some time and a lot of tinkering to make it work. My water pipe was bent in some to clear the housing because where it was fitted so close with the stock style manifold but a half inch flange between the head and the exhaust manifold would have solved that, Also front engine mount was notched but with a flange I don't think I would have had to do that either. I didn't do a flange because I had a double fan from a passat and I liked it. I just used what I had. So you will have to think outside the box to do it but it is doable but you'll have to change the fans out. The turbo I have now for the car is a VGT from a dodge and is 12 inches across so you shouldn't have a problem.

Holy cow!!! a 12 inch diameter cold side!!!??? That is huge. Sounds like it is definitely doable. My buddy is fitting one into his evo, which has a lot less clearance according to him...We shall see!
