It's supposed to be the same as the noun 'galant', meaning 'chivalrous', as in "The galant knight rode to Essex atop his noble steed". I understand you pronounce this 'gal-ant'.
However, most people around here pronounce the proper noun Galant as 'ga-larnt' or 'ga-la-rnt' or use the more common term "VR4" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The proper noun has two 'L's, but yes, you're right.
gal·lant/gəˈlant/
Noun: A man who pays special attention to women.
Sounds about right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif
but yeah, everyone round here knows the car as a "VR4"
also wtf is with ga-launt? You guys take the U's out of nearly every word that's 'sposed to have one, and then go sticking them in where they don't belong? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/uhh.gif
The "LAUNT" is supposed to sound like "LAUNCH", that's why the U was put in.
I usually call it the gay'launt, shitbox, beast, or gvr4, depending on my mood and how the car is behaving.
