Well we are going to need more infomaition. What shape is your motor in and what maifold are you running and are you willing to buy another manifold for a turbo upgrade. Do you want top end power or bottom end what compression are you running. First figure out what you would power band you want.

OK' My car has JDM Cyclone stock engine. Fic 650 injectors. SAFC neo. I may upgrade the cams to 264/272. & 3 inch exhaust from down pipe to end. End power is not may goal as I am looking for nice acceleration from zero..

^^^x2.

The REAL Evo 3 turbos are the best street turbos out there. I have the Big 16g and it's already enough as a DD but i REALLY wanna go Evo 3. If you wanted to go with those turbos though, you'd probably need a custom manifold for them.

Why Evo III over Big 16g?

The Evo3 16G is the only 16G worth buying.

I had the Evo3 16G. It wasnt enough for me. I ended up pulling the wastegate line with E85. While the early spool was nice, I just ran out of steam too early for my liking.

I have a 3076 HTA on the way. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What does the tag on that holset say? Hx40 would be a sweet turbo for 450+ hp /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Which one you mean?

+1 for the EVOIII 16G. Between the vehicles I've driven, tuned, & owned, I've seen everything from stock T-25s to GT35Rs to a 60-1 on a 1.6L 4G61T Colt.

I currently run a 20G on my AWD Spyder and an EVOIII 16G on my VR-4, and I must say, the EVOIII might have the best characteristics of any true "street" turbo. Sure, I've heard many guys state, "Oh, I love my 60-1 HiFi on my FWD on the street." Which is great until a minivan walks away from you in 5th at a highway cruise.

Perhaps the greatest aspect of the EVOIII is it's well-roundedness (I think I just made that word up). You can achieve full spool (20psi) by ~3200-3300 rpms, sustain enough boost to take you deep into the 12's, and perhaps the high 11s with good driving and a little diet, and still pass at will in a 55mph zone without shifting out of 5th. The turbo looks stock, retains stock fitment, and doesn't require any special hardware (manifold, dp, IC pipes, etc.) to get up and running.

One word of caution -- don't buy the Chinese junk. Buy an MHI from a reputable dealer.

I see..So I think the Evo3 big 16G is the best choice. Eazy to fit and no need for customs mainfold. What about the 20G?
Can I make current turbo to 16g or 20G.

This is mine...I think its 49178-01 40 0 I am not sure if it is 16g or 14b.

I'm pretty sure that's a 14b. Here's some info I found on Tuners:

14B
49178-01010
49178-01030
49178-01400
49178-01410

Small 16G
49178-01520
49178-05200

Big 16G
49178-01420

Evo I Big 16G
49178-01450

Evo II Big 16G
49178-01460

Evo III Big 16G
49178-01470

RE: 20G fitment -- the 20G has a different compressor outlet than the TD05 turbos, and thus will need different IC piping for the first section. IIRC the inlet is slightly bigger, as well. Also, unmodified 20Gs utilize an external wastegate, adding significant cost to the setup, although many vendors offer this turbo internally gated.

There *should* be a second, larger square plate cast into the housing on the opposite side of the intake that will say exactly what kind of TD05H it is. You may have to take off the intake pipe to see where it is, but it may be difficult to read.

The photo you posted above contains all the info you need to determine which turbo you have mate.
The turbos with the large square section cast into them are the cheap Ebay knock-offs which I would steer well clear of. Especially if that plate says something along the lines of "DSM -EvoIII" on it!

No, as Olson and I stated, the 49178-01410 is a TD05H-14b. You have a 14b.

If you want further confirmation take the intake off and check the compressor blade configuration. 14b's have a single set of numerous blades while the 16g and derivatives have a primary set of blades with another subset of blades behind them, but are staggered further apart. See the link below -- notice the difference in the compressor wheels.
