I have a 1987 JDM Galant VR4

The wiper motor quit. I can’t seem to figure out how to disconnect it from the linkage. There must be a trick or tip that I am missing. If anyone has some advice to offer i would be most appreciative.

There's a 10mm(?) nut on the end of the motor spindle that holds the linkage captive. You will need to pop out the inspection cover above it to get at it because it isn't easy to get to.

It was a hassle, as the spindle wants to rotate as you're trying to loosen it. I think I used a 1/4" ratchet with an deep socket, and held on to the wiper arm to stop the spindle rotating. Getting the arm back on in the correct position is a barrel of laughs as well.

I was able to get the nut off through the access hole, but the motor is screwed onto the assembly. Is there no other way to detach it from the linkage to get it out? I tried to upload a photo but apparently I am not smart enough to do that either...smh

You have to make sure your photo is less than 2 mB in size, then it should work. Hassle in today's world with huge size pictures.

I undid the four bolts holding the wiper motor assembly to the car to allow a better shot at it, then wiggled the arm off the spindle where you've drawn the circle. It's splined and a very snug fit, but it did come off eventually.

Well. Finally got it off the arm. After the second try putting on the new one I still couldn’t get the position right. I took it off and called it a night. And have to go to the hardware store to replace the nut that dropped into the 7th dimension. Barrel o laughs. For sure. Thanks for the assist folks. Im getting closer <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
