entire car frozen shut

so went out to move the car today to plow the driveway and every door is frozen shut. the locks are frozen completely and not just the kay hole. i got that unthawed but the entire mechnism inside the door is frozen. the only reason i know that is because i managed to get the driverside door open because it doesnt lock all the way with the power locks. so i got that door open and tried unlocking all the doors manualy and nothing completely frozen. anyone have any ideas because i dont have the greatest heat in the car i have to do a heatercore flush, its just been to damn cold. so please ideas!!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Drive to a car wash that has heated water. Wash the car down and thaw it out. Dry it the best you can before you leave the wash bay.

Then get some WD-40 and spray into the lock cylinders to displace any water.

I wouldn't take it to any car wash, warm or cold, given the lower temps outside. That's usually what leads to these types of problems. Hair dryer? In a pinch, a match on the key can head the key up enough to melt the ice in the lock, although I wouldn't recommend it.

You try lock deicer? I left my gsxr outside one winter a few years back (i know i know, stupid as hell) and the lock was frozen shut when i tried moving it into the garage. I used that stuff and it did wonders. You can pick it up at local walgreens ect. Thats just the lock. As far as the rest of the door is up to you. Try not to break any handles and be gentle with it.

lock deicer didnt work either so i left a space heater in it over night and it worked i think it was a 15,000 btu so yea my seats are nice and toasty. i popted my door panel off and had moisture inside the door itself. because there was still some ice in there, i think it got in from the window seal. because the other day it was warm as hell out then it froze again so thats my theory. but thanks for all the advice.

Glad you got it open! what a pain

I had a '66 impala that I'd occassionally take to the power wash when it was ~15º out, to intentionally make an "ice shell" for shitzengiggles. could get 1/2 inch of ice on it!
