GGSX-----> VR4ish documented almost done.

Hey all..

soo i decided since i have done a few of these i would document an almost full VR4 conversion swap. I like swapping GGSX's because for one there is no messy business of all the GVR4 Awd steering and they come NON ABS. and GGSX comes in different colors as im tired of black green or white.. (no offense)!!

So lets get started!

This is a 1990 Silver GSX i bought for 300 because the balance shaft belt broke and skipped the timing belt and mashed some valves! the car has 130k on it and the body was in great shape other then having a bunch of semi unknown band stickers on it and about 20lbs of trash! on the up side kinda it had about 4 fuel filters in the trunk and 2 sets of new champion plugs. too bad the plugs are pretty much worthless! So i bought a 92 Eclipse GSX for my donor car that was munched in the side pretty good! the car was in unknown running condition because the throttle body was missing, all the underhood relays were gone and so was the BOV.

So first thing was first. Pulled the Non turbo 4g63, rear diff, exhaust and driveshaft and cleaned the engine bay!

Congrats man, that Galant is clean! Can't wait to see more updates.

Funny thing is, I actually owned a 90 silver GGSX and a red 92 Eclipse GSX just like those. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

off to a good start.

what are you doing as far as this 'harness swap' goes? the DSM turbo harness is much different from the Galant GSX & VR4, in fact, I often recommend just adding the needed wires to the existing GSX harness for simplicity of plug and play sake, since most GGSX's are 90's and all VR4's are 91-92 unless you get a JDM harness.

Either way, looks good. I absolutely love my silver GGSXT

im just adding wires.. i was going to swap the harness but then i thought to hell with it. there are VERY few differences but thanks! ill have the 5 lug on it tomorrow and i pick up my block and head from the machine shop Wednesday. I put in my 1g shifter and converted it to a boot, just waiting on my shift knob to get here now and i got an evo IV wheel.

I agree with the Harness. Use the original and add the needed wires. Much easier. Ive used a Galant GS harness for my last turbo swap.

they're similar in the sense that they do the same thing and have, for the most part, the same plugs....

aside from that, they're VERY different. Please explain how you find them to have very few differences...?

So i Molested the parts car today and touched it in places noone has ever..... and i got to put it on the redneck lift today and got it cleared and ready to get hauled off to the crusher. here are some pics

Where did you get that shift boot?

boot = ebay 9 bucks shipped search for suede 3000gt boot.
yeah i put it under because i thought it would look better...

So i havent updated this for a while.. and well i got a hair up my ass today and just about finished it. not as grand as i planned but i think im just going to sell it. i ended up just using the ggsx trans and diff with a new clutch. and just added the needed wires to the harness and moved some things. i actually just used 1g piping and sidemount instead of gvr4 stuff. so it was interesting to do. i am just about finished tho. maybee another 2 hours here are some pics!
