Okay so ive had a couple 1gs and have always like the vr4, but could never find one at the right time. Well the other day i saw a add o Craigslist and he told me he would take an offer so 300 delivered to my door. Anyways he didnt know much about the car or DSM's in general. He said he used some parts from it for his talon??? Anyways it was a mess, i hooked the maingled trunk mounted battery up and did a compression check. I got 160psi across the board cold, but since there was no oil filter housing bolt the oil was just pumping out the the oil cooler/OFH. It also did not have a motor mount so i located one at the yard, filled it with window weld and installed it. I also replaced the missing injector and one broken pintle cap, as well as pulled the stock 14b to get my ported/7cm 14b on with 2g o2 housing. I noticed when i pulled the oil cap it had ARP head studs, and i saw a piece of MLS head gasket sticking out from the head. Oh and it has a fuel pump rewire, 3" turbo back with 3" high flow cat, boost gauge, and a clutch switch. Anways my thoughts were get the rest of what it needs and keep it or sell it? It still needs a radiator, alternator, ofh o ring, fmic/stock piping, and $400 in DMV fees! Anyways heres some pics what you think.

I was wondering if it has 160psi cold it might have 2g pistons since it has a mls gasket and arp's?

BTW its 975/1000

Wow never thought i was see this car again. I bought the car almost a year ago, never touched it. I didnt like the amount of money it was going to take to put it back together. I sold it to they guys you bought it from in Shafter. Good luck with the rebuild!

$300...it was worth it!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/applause.gif

Personally...it sounds like a perfect car to have fixed as a daily driver. Other than paint..the body looks like in great shape from the pics. Not sure how the drivetrain condition is..but still worth fixing for what you bought it for.

LUCKY!! Even if you just stripped it for parts you got a SCORE. So why is it $400 in DMV fees? Aside from being in California?

I was told it had a rebuilt bottom end and rebuilt head. It only ran when i had it for about a week before i started tinkering with it. Ran really strong for having so little bolt ons. besides having what you listed, thats about it. Good car i just didnt want to put that much money in bodywork/replacing parts/fixing ac.

great find. back in a day i would probably get it running in a weekend (had so many parts)

let us know how it turns out.

Try to deal with DMV tell them that you bught it and dint know it had back fees, tell them that you willing to pay for a full year of registration. They might give you a deal. Try to be nice with them and they might give you a break on fees. I done that couple of times and worked for me.

Ill try and see what happens. I just removed and re dyed the capret, door capret, rear upper head carpet, and speaker grills. Everything was sunbeat. I also got the radiator in and fitted up. Everything else is on its way so by next weekend she should be running again. Ill post some pics tonight.

some more update pics, i got the car running, and it runs good besided a blown wheel bearing which is on its way. It passed smog with flying colors, even with egr block off, 3" high flow cat and no air can or bcs. Anyways i did a rattle can job on the hood, and got some new rubber. Oh and i thre on the ported 14b from my laser, as well as stainless feed, removed a broken head stud, and also got the RS fmic on.

Incredible job, man!
I once rescued one from the back of some 3rd rate car lot for $300, and it wasnt in nearly as good condition as yours in. Good job on the score, and nice work so far. Keep it up!

Keep making it better and keep it as "new" as possible. Consider not having a car payment and spending the money instead on this car every month. It can and will be completely awesome if you keep at it.

Don't know how I missed this thread up until this point, but good job man. Looks good.

1517/2000 was a $300 car too. That was 5 years ago now.
