no real deadline i don't want to rush it that's when it starts getting sloppy. working on this project is like recovering from an addiction you just got to take it one day at a time.

so i have been working on a lot of wiring lately. since i am shaving the door handles i wont need power door locks. so i used the four wires from the power door lock actuator and re wired them to intercept the power window motor in each door. and wire up a window automation controller to each window. now i have one touch up and down on all four windows. i will also be able to roll the windows up when the alarm sets and down with the alarm controller through an auxiliary unit. i also started mounting the door poppers and wired up the jdm power fold mirrors.which will also fold in when the alarm is set.

starting to look a little better

these help so much

front door popper mounted low in door

down ward shot of front door

rear door poppers mounted

down ward shot of rear door

i will take some pics of the motor and post them later today

Looks like its coming along nice but I hope you don't plan on doing any type of racing with it. You will have a very hard time doing so with shaved door handles. Most tracks won't let you compete.

well originally i was going to powder coat it green. but when you powder coat a block it retains heat and these motors don't need any help retaining heat. so this is the only hi temp green that i found that i liked.

thanks its been over a year now that im building this car and its been a long drawn out process. that origonally started whern the crank walked two weeks after i bought the car. so it needed a crank and some bearings and it would have been all better.

but me being the way i am i figured if im in there doin the crank i might as well do the rods and pistons. then i thought since im doin the pistons i might as well bore it .020 over. then i thought since im building the bottom end i might as well build the head.then i thought since im building the head i might as well do the turbo 'inercooler and intake.then i figured i might as well do the trans. then i thought since the motor is out this would be a good time to paint the engine bay and since im doin that i should paint the whole car.

and so on and so fourth so pretty much this whole build stems from a common case of crank walk.

every time some one asks me why i am doing such a through build i simply tell them
" the crank walked, right up behind me and kicked me in the a$$ then while i was down it stomped on my head and nuts"

i still have alot of work to do but it's coming along

all 4 door handles shaved

This with the door poppers make a clean look, but from a function stand point, it's a nightmare. My friend had it on his 2G and he hated them. There were many times where the remote didn't pop open the door, "pusher" or "popper" didn't work. He had to climb through the hatch many times. Any back-up?

i have had shaved door handles on a few previous vehicles i really dont need any backups. as long as it is done right it wont go bad. but in the event a a defective part i have 4 doors with remote poppers i highley doubt they will all go bad at once. plus i have window automation so i can roll the windows up and down by remote. so in the event that all 4 poppers go bad all i have to do is press one button and all the windows roll down.

There is a kid out here that shaved his GTI VR6 turbo and he put a little paddle hidden under the car so he could just flick it with his foot!

no hand or foot operated devices that makes it easier to steal.

shaving the handles on a vw is the smartest thing you can do. or atleast just the keyhole those cars can be broken into with a flat head screwdriver.
