Where to mount my radar detector...live in VA

Got a reckless driving ticket by speed for going over 80 lol. First ticket in 9 yrs. They can toss you in jail here for a first time offense but must admit I love living in a place where I don't have to worry about having a job. Radar detectors are illegal here too. You figure they would be more fair considering that....oh well it's all about revenue.

Anyways, plan on getting an Escort Redline or a Bell STI Magnum since they are VG-2 and Spectre undetectable. I need the portability since I own 4 other vehicles.

I was wondering where you would mount it if you were in my shoes. Back in the day, I'd mount it on the visor, but that isn't enough to protect my $500 radar detector from confiscation. I saw some pretty cool visor compartments where you can mount the sucker nice and stealth but would like to hear from you first...especially those of you in VA (I know there aren't many here which is cool since it makes my car even more uncommon).

Thanks

I don't think anybody in VA on here has a Radar detector. I use to have a Escort 8500 back in when I lived in FL. When I first moved to VA back in 2008, my girlfriend got me a Bell STI, and shipped it to her fathers place in SC so he could ship it to VA. Long stories short, it loss it somehow, and I never got it. A radar detector would have been easier to hide in my other car, but I can't think of a good place in the Galant.

The Valentine one is the sh*t. I used one a few years ago for a road trip to cali. Did 90-100 the whole trip. The valentine one worked f***ing killer. It would go off a good mile before I ever go to where the police were hiding.

I have had a multiple valentine one detectors and they worked great, until about a year-4/5 months ago. Don't waste your money, here in Richmond, VA cops are using laser and other devices that you cannot pick up. I had mine mounted in place of the rear view mirror, had a tint strip on the windshield so you couldn't see it, and a concealed unit made into my gauge cluster with tented plexi glass to cover it. It was wired to a switch and it was extremely stealth. If you decide to get a radar detector make sure you do your research, no how radar works, laser, ect....and remember a radar detector is a tool/instrument in knowing were cops are running radar. Hope that helps!
*All my detectors (multiple cars) were up to date as of 9/2011.*

Lol, I moved from FL too and had a 7500 back there. That stinks on the Bell STI...I am going to go for an STI Magnum because the ramp up correlates correctly to the threat where the Escort Redline doesn't. I kind of figured out where I am going to put it....right above the cd visor hardwired...won't be seen there. They actually have dedicated holders for this but not gonna waste my money on doing it for 4 vehicles.

Exactly...valentines are awesome but not here. I got popped in a way that no one could have seen...was hiding around a corner 50 feet in front of me. I am wondering if radar was even used...sounds like a crock of crap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Lol, I didn't know anyone in Richmond had a GVR-4...that rocks!

Anyways thanks all for your thoughts.

laser can be picked by Passports, but once you do it's too late.

Up where I got hit in NOVA there are using radar. I rarely go above 80..but it's easy to when passing.

I use the Valentine One and can't live without it. I have one in each car.

With that said, I've seen some people build a fake third brake light box to mount it, then use a remote sender mounted somewhere around the driver. This would be more permanent but could work well. If you have dark rear tint, you could mount it up high back there and a cop would be less likely to see it.

my friend built a box for his v1 in his evo. uses the relocation kit inside his clock space.

What about using a detector without remote capability and just listening to it...mounting it in the fake 3rd brake? Would be kinda obscure but still somewhat flexible.
