Power resistor, injector wires, and knock sensor question

Injector transistor (silver box)

Why would someone cut and reconnect the wires that connected the fuel injector clips, to the injector transistor pack. it has 4 black wires and 1 white wire.

also.

The knock sensor, is it supposed to be shielded or not, i saw an argument in the how to section that said it should be. Well mine is partly shielded, and the wires are old and starting to crack. Additionally i noticed the black goo, is starting to soften.
Is it time to replace it already?

Thanks, any answers as quickly as possible would be good, because im outside working on this today.

Injector wires may have been cut to the resistor pack if someone used high impedence injectors. The knock sensor wire should be shielded for the most part. If go is leaking, its a good chance it needs to be replaced. If it still seems to work ok, you might be able to hold off for a little while but its something for the future.

they were cut, but wired back together as best as i can tell. I hadnt had any problems with them as far as i can tell.

there is a small amount of goo that has dribbled from the knock sensor, however for the most part its still there, and just a little softer, of course the fact that the wire was broken on the harness side of the connector, probably would indicate why it wasnt working..lol

What injectors do you have on the car right now without the injector resistor pack?

I currently have RC 550's, and the injector resistor box is installed. Just wires must have been cut before i brought the car.
