trannys

90-91 trannys are less desirable because they don't have double cone synchros on 2nd or any gear for that matter?.........I was always under the impression that 92 were better and 93 94's were even better ? (Double cone synchro's?).......just looking for somebody who knows more about the differences between the years.... someone said "only 2g's had double synchros" and im pretty sure that's not the case.........any more information would be greatly appreciated.

I can't answer all of your questions, but I believe the 90 and 91 model year transmissions were the same except for the 90 had basically paper lining on the syncros, which is prone to wearing out faster. There is also a difference in the shifter arms on the 90 transmissions, but it's neither good or bad.

Thanks......ya I knew the shifter stuff was different (learned that the hard way)......was more intrested in whether or not the 92 an up had double synchros

94 trans have double synco 2nd gear. You can install the double syncro into any trans exept the ones with the fiber synco's. Most of my trans are hybrid. My race car has double 1st and 2nd but 91-92 3rd and 4th. My street car had a 94 trans bought from mitsubishi. I just repaired my spare trans and it was a real hybrid. It is a 90 with 91-92 gears. I just swapped out the bellhousing and installed the 94 5th and reverse because 90 doesn't have a syncro'd reverse. You can make just about any part fit in any trans with minor modification. I found out the hard way that the 5th reverse shift rail was different. Nothing like 10pm just got done sealing the case and going to install the last roll pin and finding out it doesn't fit and you have to completly dissasemble the entire thing and start over. I miss my double syncro 2nd but the stock 94 trans had to be rebuilt.

Thanks a lot I knew the 94s were good stuff......I had a 93 dsm actually had a 7 bolt in it originally......but the tranny that was in it took years of abuse in 2 different cars and still shifted great I really regret getting rid of it......I put it in a different car and then sold it.....damm ......thanks again tho.....I just had to prove somebody wrong....lol
