A friend recently picked up a 90 Talon Tsi and the motor is making a light knocking noise. The car seems to run fine, just that noise. I was wondering what noise balance shaft bearings can make when they are on their way out? its not loud enough to be a rod

I'm gonna say its the balance shaft bearing. I had a similar noise from my motor and sure enough it was that.

i think i have the same problem, it sounds like a spun rod bearing, but i dropped my oil pan and changed all the bearings, it made a difference and number 1 piston did have a little play in it, but wasn't spun. but the noise is still there. the noise kinda starts at 2000rpms but when you get over 3000rpms it goes away. does this sound like the problem your having? i would like to get rid of this problem as well.
