You can't spin the cams with the crank not spinning also. The valves will hit the pistons.

The best way to get them to TDC is to remove at the cam caps so the cams are not pushing the valves and then spin the motor to TDC by watching the crank pulley timing mark. Then rotate the cams, with being bolted down, until the dowels are straight up. Then bolt down following the torque patterns and torque specs.

Then install the timing belt and tension properly.

If you have never done a T-belt job (with or without the b-shaft belt), get help the first time from someone that has done it before. You don't want to mess that up.

Another way to do it is to turn the crank bakc 90* or so, and then set both cams dowel up, and then turn the crank back to tdc. Thatw ay you don't have to worry abuot bleeding the lifters back down or anything.

I called and talked to him awhile ago, and it sounds like he's got teh vfaq open, and he's gonna have it running here shortly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Did you loosen the tensioner pulley and let it relax before trying to put the belt on?

If you didn't loosen it, it'll still be adjusted for the previous belt, and it'll be a tight squeeze to get the belt on that way.

Try positioning the tensioner pulley with both holes down, and try it again.

Good luck!

Wow, these posts are all dated the same day. From non-running to running VR4 in the same day is a miracle.

Yeah, and you need to replace the muffler bearing while you are at it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

The tcase is very easily ran out of fluid. It only holds a quart. The output seal is prone to leaking.

Mine locked up when my fill bolt fell out.

Call Mark at AMS in Chi-town and get one of his spares. He has something like 20 of them.

It is real easy to replace. Fill with heavy-duty shock proof. That stuff is thick and does not leak out like the rest of the stuff and will help it last longer. While you are at it, fill the rear diff up with it also.

Check the tranny as well but DO NOT use shock proof. Use Pennzoil syncromech or other approved fluid.
