Ok my dads car is a 91 GSX and the trans wont shift out of gear, you have to start it in gear but your able to shift into second and third but 4th and 5th dont work. Any Ideas on what it could be? I know the clutch is like a year old but only has maybe a 1000 miles on it. I was thinking the fork or trans is gone.

Check the cables first.

Cables or clutch adjustment.

Um...clutch hydraulics? Might check for a leaking slave or clutch master cylinder?

can it be shifted into gear with the car off? clutch doesnt matter when the cars not on. nothing is spinning. if it still wont shift then you have a mechanical problem somewhere. most likely internal of the trans. 4th and 5th use the same synchro i think. just depends on if its foreward or back.

Sounds to me like something broke with the clutch. It's not uncommon to see a hub separate on a sprung disk. I would suggest you stop trying to drive it because that is tearing up the fragile synchros very quickly.
