when i go to start my car it usually takes 3 or 4 tries. i turn it over it sounds like its about to start and then it dies right away. it does that 2 or 3 times and then it starts just fine. i dont have a fuel pressure gauge but im assuming that theres no pressure when i first go to start it. i swapped out the regulator and that didnt fix the problem. anyone else have an idea on what else could be the problem? the car is a 2gb with a 6 bolt motor.

Bad fuel pump, or clogged fuel filter. I have NEVER seen a car with a clogged fuel filter that hasn't killed the pump soon after changing it, so if the filter is clogged think about changing the pump out soon after.

Sounds like a possibility is one of your temp sensors is going bad. Can you log or scan the car and look at the temp readings? When one of the Mitsu ones goes bad it will usually show up as an off the wall reading (I see -50c all the time for a bad temp sensor). This causes the ECU to think that the engine is at that temp and adjusts the fuel accordingly-making it hard to start.

The fuel filter is brand new. I did after I posted my question change the coolant temp sensor and the car started right away. So ill try it again after sitting over night in the cold to see what happens.

I'm having hard start problems, and I pulled the code and it was the temp sensor. Thanks for the answer to my question that I never asked. I guess that means more work for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
