Power Windows

Hi there, I can't get my power windows to work! They work
sometimes and then cut out! Which one of these is the fuse
and the relay for the power windows? its driving me INSANE! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif

I have pulled out all the fuses and found they are all intact.
I have pulled out the power window buttons and cleaned all the contacts
and resoldered the joints incase there were any "dry-joints".

The heater in the car will not stop working, and from what I can find
on google the heater and the power windows share the same fuse, is that right?

Sorry I forgot to say that this car is a Mitsubishi Mirage 1992 (but I'm unsure of that, google says its a 1995).

You have the 1993+ style for US/Canadian shores, but judging by the fact that you are likely in New Zealand/AUS, you do have a difference in years. NZ and AUS got the models 1-2 years before North America. Our 89 Colt/Mirage, was your 87 Colt/Mirage.

Have you wiggled the wire loom passing through the door jamb to the frame, whilst operating the switches (holding them in the up or down position continuously)? Trying to eliminate a faulty wire in the most common spot for them to break.

I can't figure out how to get into the door, properly, so I basically
jiggled the wires from the cluster end of the loom, and tried the switches.

(1) I read somewhere that if the passenger side switch is bung, then
everything is bung. so i have swapped all the switches around, nothing....

(2) I tried cleaning the connections on the drivers side buttons, and
re-soldered all the connections incase of dry joints, nothing...

(3) blew out the sliding switches with compressed air, nothing...

(4) tested the plug that joins the switches with a volt meter, nothing...
(but then again, i haven't got a clue what wires to test against, i
may need to try this one again)

(a) Where can i get wiring diagrams for the loom? showing all the colors?

I think the problem is to do with the relay, but i dont know which
one controls the power windows. All the relays have different plugs
so its difficult to try out each relay one after the other in each
of the sockets. Not only that, im limit with what i have in relays.
If you or someone could tell me out of any of these images is definitely
the relay for the power windows i would appreciate it.

(b) Another thing too, is that I have come across dozens and dozens of
different fuse box configurations for 1gs. Is this car even a 1g?
Parts of this vehicle seem like a combination of 1g and 2g? is that right?

Most of the diagrams i find say that the 3rd fuse (10A) on that colored
diagram not only controls the heater and defogger, but also the power
windows. But because the power windows don't work (barely) at all, so
i can't confirm that fuse position also contributes to the power windows.
They dont move slowly, they jolt for a millisecond and then nothing for ever!

Perhaps the power windows are allowed power through another fuse location?

I think a previous owner has shorted some wires or something, because
the heater works sporadically, sometimes it will pulse air out, sometimes
it behaves. but its display is completely blank...

(c) NOW! if the fuse is shared between this bung heater unit and the
power windows, could this give me this weird power window problem?

Because the windows will work when they want to, its just that its soooo
random, with a strong chance of nothin''''

(d) So where would the location of the power windows relay be on any of these images??

Because it has to be some sort of rusted relay thats got worse and worse to energise over time.

Thank you so much for your reply I'm glad I can contribute my problem for future reference.

Hi There,

Start out with the power Fuse, then the power to the relay, then the signal to the relay, then end at the main driver side window switch.
Here is your picture with some extra annotation to help you find the relays:

Your car shows as a 3rd week October 91 Build date:

You are Lucky as my car here is a CB4A lancer and I have all my shop manuals here including the Jap ones.
I have reviewed the Japanese, Australasia and the European wiring diagrams and they are the same in terms of power wiring. I Have the European onmy PC too so here is the RHD wiring diagram:

To get to the window switch you need to pull it to the back of the car and lift the front with something dull like a spoon or the like.

You may find the randomness is down to the switched 12v ignition feed to the signal side of the relay (your shared feed). If this is the case then change the rotary switch on the back of the ignition switch. I had to do something similar to my CB4 when I was preparing the body systems to accept the engine because a contact was burned out.

Hope this helps.

Rich
