24th Annual DSM/EVO/GTR Shootout, Aug 19 - 21st 2016 Norwalk, Ohio

Hey guys, the Shootout is right around the corner and this year we'll be making the journey from Texas again with Samara, So whoever is interested in joining us along the way is more then welcome too.

As usual we'll have our big GVR4 line up and unfortunately we cannot use cones that Friday up at Buschur Racing but we can still have a line up if we all show up early. So if you'd like to be apart of the line up try to get there early please.

I spoke to David about saturday and Sunday and he said we have permission for those days to cone off 15 to 20 spaces for Galant VR4's in the spectator parking area. So if you can't make it friday and you have a Galant VR4, come look for the line up of them and join us.

We're gonna be staying at the Super 8 in Milan ohio as its close to the track and also it's very cheap this year, it's only $315 for the whole weekend, so I highly recommend booking a room there because that's nearly 300 less than the previous years prices.

Also, I'll be getting a photographer to do our shots again so don't worry about paying, I got you guys. If you wish to have your car in the pics, please make sure I have your number because it's extremely hard to communicate with you guys if I don't.

Anyways here are some motivational shots of us from the previous years we've attended. And followed by that is all th Shootout info I copied from David.

Am I being stupid or interpreting this wrong....but "stock appearing" class that used to be the 14b/16g turbo class....is now open to basically any "bolt in" turbo (like FP3065, FP3052, FP "colors") for DSM style cars, because for Evo....those turbos are built into stock style housings and this is just a change from Buschur under the area of "I don't feel like running Tech inspection"...and allows a DSM to compete with an Evo in one single "stock appearing" class? Basically...real street tire cars with bolt on turbo, stock intake manifold, and full street exhaust?

If so...kick ass....Ill certainly be running 418/2000 in this street car/radial class. I think Nelson is bringing his Grey Ghost GVR4 which fits right into this class too! SWEET

EDIT: both of us have to slap a stock intake manifold on the cars.

Are you driving the Galant out, Nate, or trailering it?

I've been itching to get 1837 back to the track, but have been avoiding it the last few weeks so I don't break anything before the trip. I've got to ensure both 1837 and 820 will make the 12 hour round trip. I'd love to run Friday night for T&T at the Shootout, but can't afford a breakage that far from home.

Driving my Chrysler Aspen with trailer...#418 will be sitting on the trailer. No way I would drive a dsm out to the shootout, race it, and expect to drive it home. no way.

Is the car show (when all the VR4s taking pictues together) on Firday? Was considering going for that day since I'm less than 2 hours away.

Typically Mike organizes pictures and all that BS. Last I talked to him, he wasn't even sure if he was going, though...

3 days away, as I'll be driving up late Thursday night / early Friday morning. Who's in that's bringing a Galant VR-4? Here's who I know for sure:

NateCrisman: 418/2000
Gizmovr4: 584/1000
thomcasey: 1025/2000 and 543/2000
GSTwithPSI: 1837/2000 and 820/1000

Anyone else?

They are supposed to have segregated parking on Saturday/Sunday for the VR-4's, but the Pics are usually arranged on Saturday I believe. Hopefully Mike can make it.

I am still unsure whether I am towing my Talon down, or driving the galant down.

Is there a certain spot the Galant guys park on Friday? I'd look for Mike's orange cones, but he said he's not going anymore.

I can't find his posts (maybe they were FB?), but I believe it was just for the track on Saturday and Sunday. Nothing about Friday in Waterman.

Well, I think you can finally count me in for the shootout. My job makes it really hard to plan anything like this, but I am going to make it happen for once, finally! So count on seeing myself and 1000/1000 there! Also, if anyone needs a bed to sleep on, it looks like I will have spare bed since my girlfriend and kid won't be able to make it.

I'll be deciding some time today whether or not I'm going. 1459 will likely be the vehicle of choice, despite high temperature and humidity in the forecast.

Maybe I'll see you guys there

Too last minute for my Talon, even though it's really moving.

I'll be driving my Galant out tomorrow morning.

Re: 24th Annual DSM/EVO/GTR Shootout, Aug 19 - 21st 2016 Norwalk, Ohio

I've owned a DSM or GVR-4 since 2005, and have never been to a Shootout. After being, I'd say it's one of those things DSM guys should at least see once. I probably won't go every year, but if I do go again I'd like to actually run my car(s).

I drove 1837, and my wife drove 820. Both cars made the nearly 1,000 mile trip without issue, which is what I'm happiest about. I've missed the Shootout in past years because I never felt like my car was ready. Making the jump to take 2 VR-4s on that trip exponentially increased my chances of a breakdown, so I'm just glad we got there and back in one piece.

The best part of the Shootout was meeting some of the guys from the forums. I got to meet Juan, and BS with him for a while. Also go to meet Tom, and check out his Galant. I saw Nelson and Nate's cars, but never could catch either of those guys actually with them. I met a bunch of other guys too, who were all super cool. The people are truly what make this a cool event.

As far as the cars go, they were awesome. It was really refreshing to see dozens of clean DSM builds, not hacked and beat half to hell. Of course, there were a plethora of Evos, and some GTRs as well...Many of which easily had tens of thousands of dollars dumped into them. The kind of money some of these people have invested in these cars is just astounding. Granted, some of these are shop cars...But still.

The Galant VR-4 turnout was pretty weak compared to what I've seen in the pictures from past years. There were probably ~10 Galant VR-4s there total, including my two. Among the super clean ones were Nelson's 584/1000, Brad's 1459/2000, and Tom's 1444/2000. Also caught 816/1000 doing some autocross in action. I believe Jeremy (vr4play) took first in the max effort event. There were no organized Galant pictures, nor did the owners even really get to park together to my knowledge. Without Mike V organizing the show, I guess not many fucks were given

The things that sucked were the hotel prices, and just being in podunk Norwalk, Ohio (no offence if that's your home/shit/whatever). Food options are limited to a few fast food joints, and a couple decent local places. The hotels (motels, actually) which would normally be a $60 dollar a night place are like $170 a night on average. So, you're literally paying double to stay in some dumpy motel because you want to go to the Shootout. Gotta pay to play I guess...

On the plus side, E85 was plentiful. Also, judging by the AWD doughnuts people were doing in parking lots...And the party at my hotel, the cops seemed to give zero fucks what anyone did. So, there's that.

Overall, it was a great time. Not something I'd probably spend $1K and make a 14 hour round trip to attend every year, but something I think everyone should at least experience once if you're a Mitsubishi enthusiast. You won't find a bigger gathering of clean cars and cool DSM people anywhere in the world. I'm not disappointed I went, that's for sure.

Normally, I take a ton of pictures. But, there was just too much going on to capture it all, and I wasn't in the mood. Here's a few pics/videos I did take:

A few shots of the trip up, and a shot of 1837 rolling through the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel

Re: 24th Annual DSM/EVO/GTR Shootout, Aug 19 - 21st 2016 Norwalk, Ohio

I had an awesome time at the shootout although it was a struggle to get there. My tow vehicle decided to try and take a dump on the way there. Managed only a 2.5 hour delay so we did't get to spend much time walking around a Buschur's. Managed to win Max Effort for the 2nd year in a row and set a personal best ET of 11.37 @125.8. The car will go faster if I can get a better 60ft time I'm sure. Was glad to see the ones who stopped by to talk. Missed a couple of you as the life of a mechanic is spent working. I was there helping a couple other people from Cincinnati. Hope to do it again next year.

Re: 24th Annual DSM/EVO/GTR Shootout, Aug 19 - 21st 2016 Norwalk, Ohio

FYI for next year:

From Dave
OK, so I've been working on next year's event. I see about 690 people have viewed what I'm working on so far.
DO NOT PLAN A VACATION OR BOOK A HOTEL ROOM!!!!!!
I have dates unfortunately, the fact of the matter is, the event may not happen at Summit Motorsports Park again. That is up in the air and won't be determined for a few weeks.
Here is the link to some of the changes and dates we have IF the event can even take place there. The 25th would happen regardless but may be changed forever as it may have to take place elsewhere.
Much of what is happening behind the scenes right now can not be talked about. At some point it will all be made public and that will happen once the event is booked and scheduled somewhere.
I REPEAT, DO NOT BOOK A HOTEL ROOM, DO NOT MAKE VACATION PLANS.

Dragway 42 would def be an option as they are redoing the whole track right now.
