#613/2000 build thread... now prepping to run 10's and/or sell?

figured i would make a new post showing whats going on. i dont really have the attention span to keep updating my Galant like i should. but i have decided that the Galant is priority, and progress WILL BE MADE. and im gonna try to keep this updated.

so basic list has been made:
tuning
tires are shit
steering rack is leaking
need LSD/axles
brakes are just "ok"
want coilovers
ALIGNMENT!!!

couple others on the list, gonna call it phase 2:
quicker spool and more power
stereo system is weak
seats? steering wheel?
still need 92 grill
remove chrome crap

anyway on to pics...

scored a 92-93 AWD DSM rack since mine is leaking...

dont mind the Integra, she is on some serious JSB after trying to make some music with the valves (bent every one lol)

"4bolt" rear axles = stronger that the 3bolts in my car
4bolt LSD rear end axles
5 lug rear hubs/stubs/rotors (gonna turn the rotors at work)

oh, didnt mention this above. think i have a couple junk lifters. seem to not pump up when cold/low RPMs. and randomly get 1-2ticks when running. so i picked up some fresh ones. also have a valve cover gasket set around somewhere.

ECMLink v3... 3rd time? i would prefer to tune her on AEM, but my box is broken... someone come tune my car.

eprom ecu... still need to finish socketing it.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

MORE PARTS!

thats my buddies work bench btw. mine is covered in misc H22/Honda parts at the moment.
Centric 5lug front rotors
Hawk HPS front pads
5lug front hubs (thanks coyotes)
new bearings and inner/outer seals
freshly turned 5lug rear rotors
Posi-Quiet rear pads
couple of oil filters from Mitsu cuz i had them on the phone.

i also tried cleaning up the rear diff...isnt show quality shiny, just less dirty.

so i need to order some fresh oils for tcase/diff/trans... (engine only has 1000miles on its oil) i got some washers at work to seal those up. and waiting on my coilovers, and buddy to get some tires for his EVO so i can steal his wheels...

already making plans for my phase 2. entered negotiations for fresh turbo kit, maybe some seats... need to finish what i have started above first (begining to see my attention span issue?). hoping to set that rolling next month with tax refund/selling Honda shit.

this is most recent

took these right after i got my 93 headlights and fresh bumper markers.

there is a Spearco 2-216 (Indyracecore) hiding in there believe it or not.

engine bay is looking pretty shitty. still plan on doing some cleaning up under there. not in my parts pile, but i do have a nicer valve cover that i have plans for. the MAFT is going away, and might end up redoing the charge pipes, might just modify as needed, we will see how my plans of bigger power go.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

I don't know what it is, but the USDM front bumpers look a million times better when they are uncut, IMO. Good job not hacking it all up.

I need to find a nice set of 93 headlights too, yours look great.

yeah. I was super happy to find those 93 headlight. feel they help the look of the car.

I don't like the look of the cut US bumper either. but I would like to get some more air to that 2-216. I would like to try to cut out just the black horizontal areas. but not sure how it would look when done, or if I have a steady enough hand for it.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

I did the same on the Integra.

I don't really care to hack up the bumper. maybe its cuz I feel its hacked? or I don't care about the going factor anymore? first couple projects back when I was 18-20yo I cut some bumpers. thinking I'm at cut 2, uncut 6, plus one just didn't have an intercooler lol.

I've seen this tried, and it never seems to turn out well. The problem is, those small horizontal areas provide structural support for the slats in the bumper. If you cut them out, the slats sag and look like shit. At that point, you should probably just cut them out completely.

I'd bet even with the bumper completely uncut, it flows pretty well. Of course, not as well as a completely cut bumper, but there is a good amount of air moving through there.

so shitty update... buddy that was/is going to sell me his EVO8 wheels is at school, and probably not coming back for a week or 2. sucks. but gives me another min to try to find some EVO IX GSR/RS Enkei's that i REALLY have been wanting for a while. no one seems to have them or want to sell them.

i have tracking number for coilovers i might just throw these on to see whats up. but my springs (eibach) for my Civic (oh yeah, i have a civic also...too many cars) are showing up before that, and i would like to swap the Cusco coilovers off that and onto buddies car so i can get some big dollars to buy more shit i dont need for the Galant. yeah i got issues. anyway, more updates coming as parts get here i assure you! lol

PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you see my EVO9 Enkei;s forsale anywhere!

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

I'd bet the finish on the wheels probably needs to be redone anyways, so I would just use a chemical stripper. Airplane remover will work, or there's some stuff called Jasco that works well and is typically available in your local hardware store.

Stip off the old finish and plastidip all in one swoop, and then give the wheels a fresh coat of paint. You can do the whole job for under $100 bucks.

Reason it is a pain to take off is because it wasn't thick enough. It took me 3 min to remove plastidip from one evo wheel. Good to see progress being made! It looks like here in Oregon the weather will be nice for the week. Hope you will have similar weather to finish it up:)

yeah, worked out really nice. wasnt too hot, not too cool (ok little chilly starting off in the AM). sun wasnt too bad (not a fan of the sun). i did get a couple sprinkles of rain on Saturday afternoon, but i would have continued till i droned.

im so excited about the progress im making. i dont care i just spent like 3K...ok hurts to say actually. but tires are scary junk, i think they have shifted belts or something? and front PS rack is pissing fluid out the left boot, and now im under it taking it out it looks like the right is starting to leak also.

i drove the EVO these wheels came off of, so i know they track well. nice new firm suspension, little more stopping power, stronger rear axles and LSD... it will all be worth it!

ok, front went ok. did get in a little fight with the steering rack coupler. and a HUGE fight with some wheel studs. threads must have been fubar'ed from when the hubs where pulled?? or just to begin with (couple have M's stamped in them). so i antisiezed them and ran some spare random lug nuts (look like steel honda hub cap style) down all them to make sure the threads where good and that they where fully seated in the hubs. ran to the junkyard (yup, it was closer) and snagged up a few and a power steering tank that i now need a cap for.

didnt take any pics of my working, i was too busy working. lol. maybe ill remember to take a couple pics tomorrow when i pull the wheel off one more time.

so i need to:
put shockproof in t-case
drain diff? fill with shockproof
need 1 axle cotter pin
2 tie rod cotter pins
gear oil pump
power steering cap
tighten axle nuts
bed in brakes
go get alignment

Your lifters may be shit, but doubt they are the source of your knock. The knock sensor is tuned to pick up the resonant frequency of detonation, which should greatly differ from valve train noise/vibrations. You're more likely to have a setting configured incorrectly in ECMlink causing your CEL to light up. If you post up a log, we could take a look for you.

I agree with swapping to SD, or even back to a stock type MAF. The GM MAFs are garbage IMO.

Choose cams based on your overall goals for the car. Do you want a track car, or do you want something that's tame enough to still drive on the street? FP4s probably aren't a great street cam, but would will provide better balls out performance with the right setup.

Same goes for the clutch. Twin discs are notorious for being a pain in the ass on something that gets driven on the street, so do your research and identify your goals before you buy.

Twin discs are notorious for being a pain in the ass on something that gets driven on the street, so do your research and identify your goals before you buy.

he pulled like 4* of timing when tuning, still was there. he has tuned tons of 4g63 cars.

as for the plans with the car, cams/clutch/etc... i just want a badass street car. i of course want it all. i doubt i ever bring my car to the track (of any kind). i like to drive my GVR4, but it certainly isnt my only car.

my buddy Bryan seems to think that the FP4's will idle fine.

we touched on the clutch issue just a little, as i know where this conversation goes. i need to move up to a 2900 and/or a pucked clutch. which has harsh engagement, grabby, generally shitty in traffic. but also i have had 4/6 puck clutches in other cars (both my civic and integra currently) and i have put MANY miles on them. my last integra had 30k miles on an ACT 6puck on daily dutys (50miles a day, with traffic). i have been researching twin discs all day. plenty of people dailying them, lots saying race only. im sure i can live with the engagement, not sure i like the idea of a rattly clutch though.

so i have been thinking. if i want a clutch thats decent, ill have to buy a new 2600, and a smaller turbo (hta green). but even then im curious if the torque will come on quick and toast it?... really doesnt matter, i doubt i'll chose less power.
so im going to continue with putting the T67 on.

idk. maybe this is just one viscous snowball...

ok. so more researching has found the non-existant 2900 street disc (mb1-xxss) shows rating of 490fttq. can assume that's flywheel number. so around 400 wheel...? don't think that will be using the t67 to its potential. guess we can tune it till the clutch starts to slip then back down the boost a little.

yup, known Bryan for like 10 years.

I happen to know about the history for that T67 CHRA... I thought the comp wheel looked familiar, but I am positive it's the one I traded to Bryan. It had <1k miles on it when I got it from Andre (grocery_getter), I never actually ran it and then Bryan and I horse traded. I kept my polished cover and let him keep the rifled (admittedly slightly better performing cover). It's an FP with the 360* fully screwed down thrust bearing, and probably the best journal bearing T67 setup you can get. I don't think he put many miles on it when he had it on his car, but I know that on Andre's 2.3 that thing was plenty crazy.

Sure, they could be a cause, but certainly aren't the definitive cause of phantom knock. A log should easily show whether they are or not, hence me asking to see one. I've had noisy lifters on numerous occasions and didn't experience any phantom knock. I think lifter tick causing knock is unlikely from personal experience, but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility I suppose.

That;'s what I get for posting quickly at work. "A" cause of phantom knock.

Knock sensors pick up any high frequency "noise" above the threshold coded into the ECU. They aren't tuned for a particular thing. A hammer on the side of the block, piston slap, noisy bearings, will all cause a reading.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

You should be able to look at the conditions under which the knock is occouring and get a idea if it legitimate or not. By examining load, airflow, rpm, and timing advance you should be able to tell. Not to mention, knock you should really be worried about happens in open loop the majority of the time. It shouldn't be too hard to look at a log and put the pieces together.

I'd assume (since I've never actually seen it) false knock caused by noisy lifters would also occur at or near idle. If that's the case, the cause should be pretty obvious.

GONE!!!

those caps on the back deck are bothering me too... need to replace/paint/something

didnt even bother to take a pic of this thing on the car. obviously it needed cleaned. but it is also just an ill fitting piece of shit 1g DSM shift boot.

so i needed something actually new/not shitty looking, that hopefully fit better...

im a fan of the black with red stitched scheme (maybe a Honda thing? i did use to have an 97 Integra Type-R). and this was cheap on ebay...or amazon. dont remember. like 8bucks though.

i always joked about this...

Spoon Sports/MOMO steering wheel :P mounted on a short hub with quick release. i bought this shortly after i got my Integra because i was pissed i left my last one in the CRX, oh and it was a screaming deal. so i put it in the integra. im currently parting that car down so i put it in beater Civic, but why? i like my Galant more, love the steering wheel, and why not? im sure some Honda guys are gonna hate, but i dont care, they annoy me anyway.

i also fixed my wideband ground. and also put in that new phone mount im sure you can see. wanted my phone in a legit spot to quickly change music...

i tried to click off some pics. only a couple seemed to come out ok...

im loving it. i havent driven my Civic since i got the Galant aligned. gotta say that at first i was not impressed by the BC coilovers. they where bouncy and pissing me off. ride was firm and seems to corner tight. so i have been twisting some knobs on the coilovers. BC instructions said they are factory set to be nice or whatever. i started by giving them 2 clicks all around. then i think i did another full round at 2 clicks. then the fronts another for good measure. pretty good now. i have had the same work commute for years, and several suspension kits of different cars. hate to admit it but probably liked the Tien RE's on my ITR best, liked my Cusco's i had on several cars (but seemed firmer than Tien's). i have a particular stretch of road that is pretty much junk. its a bridge with lots of expansion joints. think the ITR was the only one that could do 70+ without fear of spinal damage lol. the Galant is good to 70.
not tring to compare BC's to Tien RE/Cusco Zero-2's, but for the money they seem to be doing good for me so far.

anyway, im waiting on money and decisions before buying or doing anything else. i do have a decent list of items coming up.
pretty sure im going to be swapping to FP4 cams.... they are meant for a 2.3/2.4 car, vs the FP2's i have that are for a 2.0
havent decided on an intake yet. i did some messaging with JMF... but still not sure if i want a street or race manifold, or a Magnus?
im still planning on throwing the T4 setup on. want to test it and make sure i like the spool/delivery of power.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

Looking really good man! It's nice to see people making progress on their builds. Uncut bumper + Evo 8 Enkei = nice

As far as the BCs go, firm ride and tight cornering is better than the alternative I guess. That's just kinda what you get. IMO, the BC coilovers are the best bang for the buck coilover suspension system for our cars. You won't find a new set of coilovers with matched performance under $1,000 bucks anywhere. Even finding a used set of JICs or TIENs (certainly not Hot Bits) in good shape under $1K is pretty much impossible.

FWIW, my JICs ride like complete shit even on the softest setting. I had better ride quality on KYB AGXs and H&R springs. The JICs perform marvelously in all performance aspects though, so I can't really pitch a bitch when the Galant doesn't ride like a Cadillac. I guess my point is; of the suspensions systems available for the Galant, the BCs are a pretty good choice taking into consideration price, availability, and performance. I would just try and do my best to ignore the crappy ride...Cuz really that's all you can do.

Far as that T67 goes, it's probably as far from a street turbo as you can get. What are you looking for in regard to spool and power delivery? You looking for a turbo that spools late and moves tons of air up top? If so, you'll probably be happy with the T67. But, I would never bolt that to a car I wanted to spool quickly or be tame out in dem' streets. On numerous occasions, I've heard that turbo described as a "full race" turbo, and I would absolutely agree. I'm pretty sure that's the turbo Andrew (Slugs) is running on his car, so he could vouch for the overall spool characteristics. I guarantee it would be north of 4.5k, even on your 2.4L with a divided housing. You may be able to get it down some with some fancy tuning, adjustable cams, or even nitrous, but overall that thing will spool like a couple senior citizens fucking. It all comes down to what you want the car to do in the end. Full out track car...Ok, sure, the T67 will move a metric shit-ton of air. If you are looking for a streetable VR4 thoooo...I definitely wouldn't bolt on that T67.

as far as "full boost at xxxRPM"... i dont know what mine is. my boost gauges is in my glove box because i dont want to see it. it just needs to do it quicker :P lol seems to shoot past 15psi or so like 4500rpms, it does it pretty quick... and im sure you will say to log it or post a log... i tried. and once again, i dont like ECMLink. probably because i dont use it so im not familiar with it. but it (or i) deleted/cleared the log.

Andre was running the .84 divided T4 on his car, in fact I am running his hotside. I believe the hotside Bryan had for his was identical though.

i have the Magnus T4 manifold. i might try to test fit it next week or 2. not sure how far i want to dig in if im still missing pieces. need to wait till i get paid.

i have pics of it on Bryan's Hyundai, and i found another galant that had one. but they are on my old phone.

not sure what i want to do on the radiator. rather spend the money on other stuff. but this is an area i would like to spend money on if it is gonna be helpful. i do like the ebay one, as it has a fan switch spot (i dont care if its for a VW, they are easy to get and rewire) and the AFCO does not. but the AFCO has what looks to be a more useable mount.

my math shows that the off brand has less core area than the radiator in my car. the AFCO as more... but does it actually hold more coolant? does it get rid of the heat better? my thoughts are that this is a dual pass. will have a better shrouded fan (passat?) to keep turbo heat off the core along with being tucked more up in grill away from turbo. my Galant has no issue dropping temps to the thermostat/176* when its below about 80* outside when rolling. its only issue ever has been sitting. and current setup will stay 200-205 no problem.

i will probably go to the junkyard and get a switch w/plug, and a Passat/whatever dual fan. i remember running one in my GTI way back and it worked well.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

to be honest I have seen them work as well or slightly better than factory. On my car, it doesn't like sitting in traffic & idling. I think the fan I have combined with not having proper ducting is kind of screwing me a bit (big oil cooler + Spearco 2-216 in front). I'm going to revisit that and see if I can make it work a bit better. The other thing is that while my manifold & hotside are ceramic coated there is a ton of heat radiated & thermal mass there. Getting blankets is at the top of my to-do list right now as a result. Rolling my car has no problem staying 180-190 even doing repeated pulls, however sitting it'll climb from 180-200+ pretty quickly. when I'm sitting I force the fan on full time and run the heater to ensure that it doesn't get too warm.

Evan,

if there's a piece that prevents the coolant from bypassing the core, and forces it to go out & back, I think it's probably fine. On the afco, you can see it welded from the outside. I haven't put a fanswitch in mine, but when I do i will probably put it closer to the top of the radiator so it comes on a bit earlier.

i guess i never updated this here...

i patched the radiator, and its back on the road. the civic is just too boring and slow... going to order some parts to throw the T67 on hopefully. just basic stuff to get her around the block to see if the spool is as bad as you guys think... but really just dragging my feet as i dont feel like taking her apart as i enjoy driving her over the Civic. and i dont feel like finding out i need to do something with the radiator (aka spend lots of money). but im not gonna know till i try i guess.

buddy has acquired the FP4 cams for me. ok deal i guess. just need them swapped in along with new lifters i have sitting here. and i should also probably modify this valve cover or at least paint it so i can throw it on with the fresh valvecover gasket when doing the lifters/cams...

sorry that i havent updated this. truth is i havent updated it because i havent worked on it. why havent i? im sure i have excuses, but really i have no attention span. she ran great, and didnt want to mess with her. plus:
traded my 1992 Civic 'daily driver' car that i didnt daily, or really drive for a 1966 Chevy II Nova

put the 1998 Integra back together and sold it the next day

so just to be clear i have: 2000 Silverado, 1991 VR4, and 1966 Nova... hope everyone is up to speed LOL. im pretty excited at my collection.

i got the truck to nice daily status (stereo/comfort stuff) and been driving it. drove the Nova a bunch till a tire bulged, bought new wheels, tires, lowered it and been having issues, so it sits until the Galant is finished. i know i dont make any sense.

i have test fit pictures with old radiator, but its depressing. so..

i have about 2" from radiator support to the turbo. think i will have enough room once radiator is tucked and fans are on...i hope... wastegate tube is still touching dipstick tube, needs a little more massaging, and the wastegate VBand clamp was touching the PS pump on test fits. so plan was to just hit the clamp with grinder real quick. but i think i will try a shorter belt on the pump first.

thats about it for now. i took a good long stare at her, getting plans. oh and i re-studded the head so the turbo manifold has something to bolt to... waiting on radiator (UPS, so hope to have it before end of year) and fans. need to make oil drain which might be a bitch as it points at the motor mount, and see how close the down pipe that came with it fits. im sure a 4G63 swapped Hyundai and a Galant use the same downpipe right? radiator i ordered. its the cheaper (than an AFCO) aluminum one i found on ebay. about $135. MK1 Golf/Scirroco fitment. looks decent. has nipple for steam port if you have an LS1 lol. also has spot for fan switch.

yeah, not a chance in fuck both fans fitting. oh well. this car doesnt have AC anymore so when its 80+ i probably wont be driving it anymore. same goes with cheaping out on the radiator. BUT i will be building a shroud for the single fan.

this is the fan switch i picked. comes on at like 192-195* and has gasket with it. was $8bucks or so. i liked this one over the others i found because it has that plastic crap in the middle to hopefully protect the terminals from getting broken off if i bump it lol.

i did some more poking around and staring. lower hose will work great, oddly i need to trim 2inch off. but the upper is about 3" too short. will need to see what i can find tomorrow at parts store. fan should clear the turbo even on a shroud without issue.

thanks. took a while to pick wheels for her. I like them. 17x7 & 17x8 zero offset. machined outer instead of the chrome ring is awesome. I have some police caps for them also, need to finish scuffing them and put them on.
they are REV 107's.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

thank you.

so this is the turbohf china aluminum Scirocco/MK2/whatever radiator install.... click <~ thats what i bought and im installing here.

i did a fair amount of test fitting and beating/bending of the PS 'cooler' lines. was trying to push the radiator as far into the core support as possible.

i drilled some holes right into the core support.

i used these grommets that i cut down to poke into the core support. not sure what the hell these actually go to? maybe an air box resonator from integra? AC condenser from Galant? or mounting grommets from cruise control box? all possibilities or good places for you to look for yours lol.

like it was factory

it was a fair amount of work to get this far. lots of trimming and cutting a big ass hole in sheet metal. its all mounted on low density foam to seal it all up. really happy how this turned out, and how simple it turned out. my plans in my head where all over the place from super ghetto to overly complex welding/bending.etc.

sexy

that is an unmodified upper radiator hose from '92 Eclipse turbo' that i got from O'reilly's. lower one is...well i dont know. i replaced it with something, but i remember it was a bitch finding one i liked. probably Eclipse one also. anyway i cut about 2" out of it oddly enough (original upper was 3" too short)

oh, i also made a little tab on the front side that goes from the back of the headlight (bolt/stud sticking out) to the front of radiator.

now thats it all done and in the car...i want to pull it back out and paint the radiator black lol. probably should have done that first. oh well not that big of a deal.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

I think you're going to have issues with overheating. That shroud design isn't going to let air flow freely through the entire surface of the radiator core. You've effectively just reduced the size of the core to the diameter of the fan. All the other air that passes through the radiator (but not through the fan cutout) will hit the flat shrouding, stagnate, and do nothing to remove heat from the radiator core. I had the same issue with the Mishimoto shroud, as did EfiniX with a custom made shroud he was using. Both shrouds he and I used shared the same basic design; a flat sealed panel on the back side of the radiator housing 1 or more fans. I hate to see the work you did wasted, but I honestly think you're going to have issues.

The second issue are those crappy Ebay fans. They don't move even half of the air they are advertised to. My 13" SPAL fan is only rated at 960 CFM max. There's no way in hell that Ebay fan will move 1730 CFM. I guarentee it. The 12" Ebay fan I had was a complete turd. I swapped it out for a SPAL and saw a major improvement in airflow at idle.

Definitely not trying to hate, just provide some preemptive feedback from things I've seen and experienced. You could try and run the car as-is, and just see what happens. I'd just try and stay close to the crib on the maiden voyage in case your temps creep and and the cooling system can't bring them down. Good work on the fabrication, and I hope this works out for you.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

you know a buddy of mine said the same about my CRX with a dual fan setup similar. and i DO understand what you and him are saying. on that car i left it. and had no issues with cooling sitting or cruising. but at above 70+mph it would creep temps on the freeway. so i pulled it out and cut the shroud down to just one fan, leaving the other side open. same damn thing. and if i remember right it did it NA 2.0L and boosted 1.6L. maybe the cooling setup just sucked ass for airflow? or maybe it was a junk radiator? who knows.

one of the setups i was thinking about building would have had a flapper setup like on VW's. maybe i will do it. we will see how this does i guess.

also there is about a 10-12mm air gap between the radiator and the shroud. not sure if you realize that, or if im just reading your post wrong? i assume you know that, and you mean the shroud isnt channeling the air?

i know china shit isnt to be trusted to what it claims to be. thats why i was hoping to use 2 of these fans. but i failed to realize that there measurements (and probably mine) are not correct. so maybe if i redo this i will go down to a pair of 8" fans? but then im also still concerned with there surface area blocking flow, and the CFM not being there.

i like peanut butter M&M's.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

Yeah, the Mishimoto shroud had a fair amount of space between the core and the shroud as well. You're correct, these type of shrouds (flat ones) just don't channel the air. That's why the FAL units work so well, because they have really good shroud designs. That's also why the factory puller works really awesome, because it also has a boss ass shroud design.

You'll probably notice the temps creep up the most at highway speed. That's where the car is making tons of heat under a load, but the radiator won't be able to pass enough air to bring the temps down. At idle, it may or may not work. I'm betting due to that crappy ass fan, it's not going to work.

My advice would be to remove the shroud, and pick up the largest single puller fan you can fit on the radiator. I just bought a used 14" SPAL used from Ebay for under $50 bucks. Mount it with the push through zip ties and you'll be good to go. The SPAL moves more air than the stock puller did, which says a lot. Here's the setup I'm currently running: click . I have since ditched the 12" Ebay puller I had for a 13" SPAL puller. With the dual SPAL fans, the car cools better than it ever has at idle. Another good thing about the SPAL fans is they actually know how to measure them...That goes for not only the physical dimensions, but also the amount of air they will move. Derp around on Ebay and see what you can find used. Just run the part number and look up the specs like so: click

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

wow, i think im getting old or just a lazy bitch. was just thinking that we did my first turbo kit in 1 night. pile of parts and an NA car to boosted pulls at like 5am... this is gonna be more solid and faster but yea...

figured a couple comparo shots would be cool.

oil line was bothering me. mainly because i need one and need to figure it out. the turbo oil drain is SUPER close to the front motor mount. like the AN fitting that was on there would hit when test fitting. thought after putting my new shit on i was screwed and was going to have a crazy S shaped drain, but came out nice and straight i think, glad i went with 2 90's.

no shot on the car. maybe ill remember later. but this is the drain parts. i got this hose at Napa. i have used it before on the CRX with the 14b, and the oil FP Red that just came off the Galant. seems to work great, so ill use it again.
short piece is to show the part number if anyone else wants to find it.

maybe ill try a downpipe in the next couple days...

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

ok. so i guess i only get about an hour of light when i get home now. but thats ok really, as i have a bunch of small tasks to do, rather than large ones.

i finished off the wiring on the new radiator setup yesterday. just had to swap and lengthen connectors. zip tie everything in its place. etc. i should throw the grill back in and decide on weather the radiator needs painted or not... other than paint i think its 100% squared away.

dipstick its wastegate elbow, and wastegate clamp hits power steering pump:

dipstick was easy. if you have never done one slide a 12-17mm wrench down the tube, then push/lean on it. careful not to pinch the top too much. a little bit will hold the dipstick in if there is some backpressure

power steering:

its oh so close, but way far away now. lol. i just went to the autoparts store in search of shorter belt. grabbed a couple, but it looks like i settled on the belt they listed...mine must be stretched, or labeled wrong, not oem. alternator belt is though.

with those huge victories i went inside and called it a night....

.... ok i was on a roll. so took a pie cut out of the dumptube and it looks like it will clear the crossmember and point right at the downpipe. works for me. didnt want it pointing at the wiring harness, or the oil filter, or sure as hell not the alternator, or the oil drain.... maybe ill wrap the oil drain in aluminum foil or something??

chop saw was out, and if im pissing off the neighbors i might as well drop a couple more cuts.

cool part about this is obviously half of it is the previous chargepipe. and this came out of my scrap bin. and it actually eliminates a 2.5" straight coupler i had in there before (going to weld the two together) and i can now use that on the turbo as it went from 2" to 2.5"

i will most likely be header wrapping that pipe. it got hot as shit before with the Red on there, and i wanted to wrap it then too.

note, order some shit:
4" K&N
4" 45* coupler

couple parts. got some header wrap too, but it showed up late cuz the seller was an asshat and mislabeled the shipping they use. actually same with the O2 bungs.

anyway. i got to work even though i was missing my header wrap.

figured i would start with welding some stuff

still using my flux core. feel im actually good at it.

while staring at my completed master pieces, and being pissed about my header wrap i actually went and checked my mail...

super excited about this piece. sometimes its the small things.

i just have put my welder away like 3-4 times today. welded up pipes, then put away. shit, O2... shit, i need to bead the end of my pipes...

did some test fitting of this giant ass K&N filter. yeah. i had to modify my upper pipe to move the bov towards the throttle body some, give it a turn, etc. i think i have barely enough room now.
no pics of that because i forgot about it after i hung it up to dry after repainting...

my list of things to do is really getting small i do think.... i think because i didnt actually make a list like i should have...

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

sorry seems i forgot a couple updates...? so some copy/paste to get you up to speed...if anyone reads? lol

[last week?]

I took it back apart some. yeah in know. but I didn't like some shit. now if fits even better, and I'm happy. then final assembled some more shit. i assembled the oil return. put the downpipe on. think I have some hearing damage from using my impact under the car. seriously. I have a low beeping tone in my ear when I plug it. fuck.
anyway. little over 3k miles on my oil plus sitting for a couple months now. so I decided now is the time to see how much of a bitch it is to get the filter off with new turbo... not bad actually. has less room than before but not too bad. helps that I don't have an oil cooler.

so I was looking down the exhaust at this point and I figured out I hate my entire exhaust system.
downpipe is garbage and hangs too low.
hate the bolted flange (I may be deaf now)
resonator sometimes hits driveshaft carrier
exhaust sometimes hits diff
muffler sits funny + needs tip... but want dual tips now.

so I want new v-banded up exhaust system build by someone who knows what they are doing and cares. nice Magnaflow resonator, would like a dual tip Magnaflow muffler but I'm not finding one in 3"?

anyone know a good legit shop in the PNW that can make me my new exhaust? obviously I'm picky about how this is going to turn out.

------

note: for christmas i need a damn jump box.

so i put some fresh coolant in her...and its leaking. i realign and tighten lower hose. continue... its leaking from other side, you know the coolant sensor i cant reach now. so i tighten that some. seems like its ok. i top her off.
i go to start, click, click, buzz... yup, just enough to turn some lights on, but not to turn over. figures. so i jump off with the truck. took some cranks? but ran with a giant ass squeak from belts or alternator (cant reach that either). runs for a couple mins till it stalls. whatever. couple drips of oil from middle of car, but it was leaking from that area to begin with. and more coolant from the sensor i can barely reach, and now everything around is hot as fuck.

success!

------

[current]

so i took her out last weekend for a little drive...

coolant switch doesnt fuckin work. so i just jumpered it. seemed driving around it would stick below 200 or so. then randomly would go down to 180 or so.... yeah i know im sure its not random, just dont recall the conditions at which the temp would fall.

still pissing oil. probably good, cause i didnt actually do anything besides blow it off with some brake cleaner...

downpipe is still too low.

drove over to buddies place while out shaking her down. he wanted to see it and go for a ride. spools up to some good power damn quick. you wouldnt think a turbo this fuckin large could do something like that. guess it is a large motor also. anyway we where hitting like 12psi? or so... on a "16psi" spring, china... anyway of course would not do. cranked it up some, made a pull, cranked it some more, made a pull. was like 16psi then sputtered mildly, but stopped revs. just blowing out spark.

so we went and got some plugs. know idea how many miles i actually have on them but probably 9-12months? anyway i had to leave after throwing in some new plugs. some BR8ES if i remember right, gapped down to 19 or so. she seems fine now. didnt notice how much boost though, really havent been paying attention. but the AFR's will need some work LOL.. like 10.0's blowing some black smoke rich....

current 'finished' pic...

still more work to be done.

speaking of which...oil leak...

my attempt at keeping everything clean, first time with helicoils also. think the total count was 2.5 stripped holes. one probably was fine with enough thread, but i was fixing them so i did it anyway before i had to take it apart again. one had maybe a thread holding on (swapped in a longer bolt before) and one bolt was just sitting there for cosmetic sake it seems. now im going to say this is just from old age and abuse from previous owners, but you probably wont believe me, and i dont care. so moving on.
oh i did let her run for a bit and short drive with old cover/gasket. still have 2 leak spots? one seems to be from a bolt hole and the other from corner over the cam cap, both should be fixed with new gasket (that i do have).

good time to replace that valve cover right? well i cant ever make up my mind on, well most anything. so it showed up last minute of course.

got this off transparentdsm (thanks again). i hate the color red. so its not going on yet. but i like this cover. no cracks it seems or broken cover bolt holes. i like the Mitsubishi/DOHC/16valve. vs the DOHC/2000 DSM cover on my engine (engine in my car when i got it was out of a 91 Laser), my engine isnt even a 2000cc, its a 2.4 now.

anyway, i want to put this cover threw the parts washer at work, strip the paint, and repaint it... just not sure what color i want. im thinking gloss black?

i ever tell you i hate red?

used like a hole can of aircraft paint remover on this bastard! it spent time in the parts washer at work. then i just wire wheeled the shit out of it, like 3 batteries with.

looking better...

sexy :P

no pic on the car as of course it was dark when i was finished and never bothered to take another pic... also installed with brand new gasket kit, Hondabond on corners over the cam caps, etc. fired it off and looked legit with no leaks!!!!

then it started idle hunting and pissing me the hell off.

plugged the laptop in...umm that say 11.1v?? fuck. volt meter shows 8.48v on battery... so figured that she had finally went TU.... retards at parts store charged her up, they claimed. showed 12.4v so whatever.... fires off fine, then idle hunts again! figures. and its a bitch to get to. but turns out easier with my new turbo/radiator setup. poked it with volt meter before pulling, still 11.5v or so.
took it to retard parts store, where it took like 20mins for him to test it... yeah i will keep calling them retarded.

pic sucks.

so lets count the reasons why this may of took a shit on me?
downpipe/turbo heats the shit out of it?
maybe the fact its soaked in oil?
then i soak it in brake cleaner? lol
or maybe that its some random junkyard probably 75amp (suppose to be 90amp i guess) alternator i found sitting in engine bay of DSM. it did have OEM Mitsubishi Reman tag on it though.
oh and its a bitch to get to, and to find one, and would piss me off...

so i took it apart

oh, thats probably the reason? brushes are toast. and one was kinda stuck in bore (no springyness to it)... im sure you cant see in the pic, but there is actually a diamond star on the old brushes.

mostly cleaned up and ready to go??

NOPE. back to retard parts store for test...and then the smoke came out. and as im sure you know once it comes out, it doesnt go back in... or it was just toast anyway and smoked up from parts cleaner and shit. whatever

bought a brand new (non-reman) unit, should be here next week or 2.

I know its so simple, yet so difficult at the same time...

brand new alternator tuned into a cluster fuck. in which the amazon retailer will take no responsibility for, fucks. ad description and interchange part numbers are what I need, alternator shipped was for a different application. they made ME pay shipping back, and charged me a restock. so I'm out 60bucks for their mistake?!??!
so a big fuck you to: rareelectrical and amazon.com. (amazon has yet to do anything but 'forward my concern')

went to buddies house, dug around. ended up swiping a random used Mitsubishi alternator from his place. went and tested it at parts store. it would pass one time fail the next. was showing just on the max volts threshold. ehh, works for me.

installed, tested, everything seems good after a rip around the block and resetting my idle.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

sorry, no updates. havent been around here... and well i have been working on my Nova. but here is some updates from like a couple weeks ago...

YES, I DO STILL OWN THIS.... it just sits there collecting pine needles...

week, or 2 ago i moved the galant to in front of the garage to look at it. once i could see it it was sorry looking. damn near growing moss. LOTS of pollen on it. shit is like concrete. i had been trying to drive it at least once a weekend. but its back to or still leaking oil, had been noticing some coolant missing, but it always seemed to disapear some. anyway gave her a good simple green scrub down on the outside and quick wash, missed a spot. close enough for someone that rarely washes his cars.

i jack it up. hose her down with brake clean. notice that the driveway spot seems to have moved? clean/dry off. fire her off on the jack. ::) and look for leaks. just a little seep at the oil drain, figured it was worse? start looking at timing cover side. fuck its dripping. oil is fresh. but notice quickly that its not oil. about the time i realize its coolant, its damn near pissing a steady drip. then i look over at oil filter housing, oh its leaking oil from there... sweet.

Galant forum said buy the AISIN its the "oem brand"... cool. same one thats on the car now. and its leaking.
Galant forum said buy a Gates belt. so i did... helped that they had part numbers posted, and i just bought the cheapest ones i could find. like 25 for belt, 36 for pump?

new water pipe oring, new gasket on cleaned up surface + hondabond (nice seal, more that it holds the gasket).
btw. little helpful tip from buddy Bryan, jack the motor up a little, and you slide the pump out through the motor mount pocket. win.

replaced bolt that was just missing out of the oil filter housing, and torqued the shit out of all the bolts i could see on the front of the motor.

maybe tomorrow...or next week... ill throw the timing belt on, probably have bryan check it, then drive it a couple days to see it still leaks oil, but not coolant. then it sits again... fun times.

---

i got this all back together, once the ignition module was plugged back in, and the jump box (aka jumpers on nova battery lol) it fired right off. runs mint. should, it ran before lol. once the coolant got bled the idle settled out. took it for a drive, everything seems great. battery once again stone dead this morning, bonehead move on my part with map light ::) stopped for gas and started fine but it did seem to mark its territory LOL. so yeah.

so sitrep:
no more coolant leak.
fresh timing belt.
fixed most the oil leak lol (still seems to be oil drain area)
with fan 100% on, and 65* outside putting around it wants to be 200-205*. so fuck.
one of my pulls after getting gas i thought i felt the clutch slip, did another after and didnt notice it.
still needs tune...bad. its super rich 75-100% throttle.

needs:
expensive high cfm fan...not cheap china fan that claims cfm.
tune
brake lines
clutch
motivation.

so look for an update in 3-6months when it really needs a clutch, and motivation....

---

ok so tomorrow it is suppose to hit 80*, thats gonna suck, means i will drive the truck. not because i didnt finish, but it has AC.

anyway. so cooling... been driving this around and noticed that if i dont have the fan on it sometimes maintains its temp while moving. if its below like 65 outside.

idea is and was before i ever started it with this setup, that the fan/shroud i have sucks and is blocking airflow. then once the fan is on (at low speeds, as i believe at speed with it on it is also blocking air flow) it really doesnt have the CFM to keep up.

so i bought:

yes. a Flex-a-Lite 365... a $225 fan to put on my $120 radiator?...

it fit my replacement china aluminum radiator i bought on ebay even though it says its for a Scirroco radiator that i have? no. not really. but even looking at it that really isnt a surprise. but i made it fit champ. zip ties and foam shit.

now its dark. mosquito, etc.

i did whip up the wire real quick. and poked it into the car to verify it fits. and well . even after my measurements and all.... well it fits better than i expected. hell, probably better than the other one did.
also threw some fire to it. damn thing sounds like a vacuum cleaner firing off. so yeah, moves some air.

also, after some searching i might be able to fire this thing off with the ECU. see how that goes. would be nice.

---

not sure how well that last one looks. but it took some finagling to get it that good. the intake coupler actually goes slightly into the fan motor recess. its close.

phone claims its 64* outside. with the motor at 200* it took 1min 24sec to drop it to 180*. say thats good?

and after driving around it seems to channel air just fine while moving at speed. doesnt seem to cool down as fast as i would like, but doesnt heat up so ehh, ok.

wow, thats like 4 updates.... now someone buy my car so i can buy an EVOX?

Yeah, dude. Figured you'd have issues with that first fan setup you had. I've gone through a fair share of different fan setups myself. It's a real ass pain to find something that moves air yet still clears on some setups. That FAL setup you've got now is pimp though. I'd say if it will drop the temp to 180 you're good. But, that may change a bit when it's warmer and more humid outside. Not sure how hot it gets there in WA where you're at, but summer is coming up, so you'll probably get your answer soon enough.

yeah. my CRX had issues too with a similar setup, but it had issues once i took it off too. so wasnt set that it really was an issue to have fan setup like that... one of my old setups worked great. with it like 80 outside stopped it would just hang out at like 205. but that was an OEM Civic shrouded fan, and one of those junk china fans as a pusher. just doesnt fit with any big turbos though.

and yes. i did order other parts. still on boat/plane/seaturtle from China to bring me one, and waiting on retailer to contact me on other part...

just sitting here waiting for my parts to show up...

throttle body is here.
intake manifold is...idk, no email, or tracking. so in production? sitting at retailer? lost in shipping...
throttle body coupler is here.
forgot to order pipe bends to redo upper charge pipe.
SD harness is still sitting in tool box. figure might as well wait for intake/tb to be installed.

but really, i have been working on the Nova. ill put the new Galant parts on once i hit a snag on the Nova.

of course its a JM Fabrication Race manifold. 1g head, 70mm throttle body flanged. got hooked up thru JNZ Tuning. i got pissed because i couldnt find shit used. ordered this, then day or two later a Magnus + JMF coil comes up for a deal. whatever. i like the look of the JMF anyway.
throttle body is "S90" looking 70mm off ebay. looks mint. bolts to manifold. steel throttle shaft. i did loctite the throttle blade screws for good measure.

maybe ill get around to installing it some day...? until then, it looks sexy as hell sitting on my kitchen counter.

i havent updated this as i have no desire to work on it really. i did install intake manifold about a month or so back. last week i put in the SD harness and got it fired off, so i could move it out my driveway.

THIS WILL BE FOR SALE SOON!... i just dont seem to care much anymore. i dont drive it (which is probably the big lack of me not caring) and would much rather have something i would drive. honestly something more stock, and probably a muscle car.

any idea what thing thing is worth? im going to be fixing a couple small things, finishing the SD swap/tune. its a rust free WA car. built 2.4L, big turbo, coilovers, etc. just a couple small cosmetic body flaws that i may have fixed first.

just have joy in buying shit for her and building. never rip her to potential of the build. just drive every once in a while. really I have just spent way to much building the car I wanted and now I don't think I want that? I just want to cruise and do burnouts.

think I have narrowed it down to a CTSV or a G-Body Monte Carlo SS. not sure if I want something I'll build or leave alone. then I'll have my turbo Nova for fun.

I really am happy with the way most stuff is coming together on her. idk. in the end I'm sure no one will give me what I want for her. then she will be all nice and polished ready for sale looking her best, and I will probably enjoy her more lol.

I should dig up pics of the 'beater' Civic I sold to buy this. she looked good in her last days. so did my integra with her clean white wheels lol. I don't wash my cars so often, hell the Nova will probably roll out the garage with an inch of dust/metal shavings

so i have been thinking...and usually never good. whats it gonna take to get this pile to run 10's? is it capable now? or how fast should it go?

full street trim. too lazy to pull interior out. wont buy another set of wheels/tires/slicks. so street tires. >30psi (3bar map sensor), and on 92oct.

i have never really been interested in taking this down the track, never wanted to deal with the idea of broken parts, and i have pretty much been happy building street cars for me to just have fun with. track number doesnt mean much. but this should go fast? so kinda wanna know.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

Bryan said i need race gas. thats not a problem i guess. but i bought a 3bar map, so it needs to happen under 30psi.

i figure im going to hit up the 1/8th miles out at Monroe. its close to me, get the car sorted out, and figure how im going to launch it. looking at some other slips i need to get quicker than 7.50/95mph. and like you said 130 or so at the 1/4.

i plan on launching it like a trip for groceries lol. i would love a fast time, but i dont care to be scattering parts and walking home either. come to think about it, every transmission i have broken has been on a soft clutch release (of an already abused trans lol)

maybe ill work on it this weekend?

that's a thing of beauty.

I haven't even driven my car since April... it's sitting on the tender at my parents house, as I've been too busy with moving and everything else to deal with it. Has a ton of junk inside it right now too (spare parts and such, and detailing gear haha). I feel kind of bad, but then again, what can you do?

I frankly won't stand on it in first because I still have a gvr4 first gear in there... I'll get into 2nd and mat it

mine has a 91 DSM/Talon trans. stock open diffs. and some expensive pink oil...

and actually now that I have been thinking about this again, I'm going gonna brake shit, the clutch is likely to turn to smoke long before that happens... so once again looking at a 6puck ACT (2600 or 2900) or like a PTT twin. I have very little issues driving a 6puck on any of my previous cars (most have been in Honda's). sure both will shock the drivetrain into spitting out parts...

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

yeah, watched some videos on the noise. not a big deal. i always think my car sounds like that, this way it actually will lol.
i think i have driven a twin before, drove a handful of EVO's, everyone had a different clutch setup. im sure that the driveablity of the twin wont bother me much as i will rarely drive it. and my commute is a quick 8mile drive threw the woods/back roads. and before i had daily driven my ITR with a 6puck for about 30k miles in shit north seattle traffic. little tricky in the snow

actually the squeak of the a sintered iron disc will probably annoy me.

from the looks of it "used" (i see them with new discs, or 100miles on them) PTT's come up for sale cheaper than a new ACT/Fidanza is going to run me.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

if you or a family member are former or current military, the guy who owns PTT is a big supporter, and offers a solid discount, for what it's worth. I think I paid 900 something for mine shipped, though it was years ago at this point.

If you're not daily driving, a ridiculous clutch isn't that big of a deal IMO.

that is awesome he does that. i unfortunately never served. i will probably be watching for partouts on FB/ECMlink/wherever for a deal. im not excited at all about pulling the transmission. so probably after winter. plus im more focused on the Nova at the moment. want that running/driving for spring time. its only been on the stands for about a year now. for a simple front end suspension swap, that tuned into a LSx swap, then fuckit, it needs a turbo...

i think i have given up the fight of the drive ability of the clutch. im working 8miles from my house. all back roads.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

so i worked on her yesterday/today some.

~i cut and welded on the upper charge pipe again. turned out pretty good. and of course i would run out of welding gas on about the last inch of welding, and an hour before the welding supply closed.
~i swapped the 'new' mystery map sensor (dont remember if it was a 3 or 4 bar map, didnt work well as either) with a new 3bar map. works MINT. like reads -.01hg with key on.
~i hooked up the vacuum hose to the new map.... worked ran a shitton better like that

then i messed around with it some trying to get it to run/idle right. it fired off great. idled like 2700rpms. turned the idle screw all the way in and idled 1700ish. once it was warmed up it started to idle surge, aka piss me the F off... done.

PICS! because really, did you read my ramblings? lol.

i usually get really pumped, spend $1-3k on her, drive her for a month or 3. then something goes wrong, or loose interest and it sits for a month or 6.

got some motivation from buddy. going to mess with idle tomorrow. look for oil leak, then drop the front crossmember to get to oil leak... pretty sure its the oil drain. so some more hondabond, redloctite, new drain hose... then some tuning till there is no more clutch. buddy thinks he may have a 2900 ACT. hopefully he has it, hooks me up, plus a new street disc, fidanza rebuild, 25-30ish psi = win.

if im back in love. then ill have my work do a full detail (i work at a dealership), maybe some better/new stereo equipment and drive.... run a 11.00et this spring, get pissed and sell lol

stay tuned! likely to change my mind daily LOL.

she just sits, and i spend money. last time it was like 3k to get her out of jail...

so the other day...friday? anyway i pulled the front crossmemeber at the advice of a friend. wow, wasnt hard at all, and had a great view of all the underside of the turbo. (not sure why i havent done that before to get under there) could reach damn near everything too. thought that the oil line may have been rubbing and had been cut, it was rubbing a little, replaced it anyway. shouldnt rub anymore either. gave all the oil pan bolts i could reach a good snugging. i really dont see where it was leaking from. started the engine and it ran for 20mins or so till it got to about 205*. and i *think* it was leaking from one of the turbo oil drain bolts. think i fixed that. want to top off with oil and check it running on level surface.

i have a list but if i remember:
wire fans to ecu
hvac vents need replaced
NEEDS TUNED!
noise from RF i would like to find
some detail/paint touchups
oh, and i bought some black molding to replace chrome crap all way around the car. i ripped the one out the bumper, made a mess, bought eraser wheel to remove the mess. should be time consuming and fun

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

well. in keeping with my recent updates that seeming have not much to do with selling or running 10s like title suggests...

i did a bunch of research, loaded all the pages to the tablet. went to work on the Galant.
~figured out wtf i had done to the wiring to the fans, removed rocker switch in cabin
~ran new wire to ECU to ground trigger relay for fans
~got pissed as it seems i dont have pin 53 egr? my notes where for egr, so had to track down and use the fps... hope/think im looking at these pinouts correctly
~re-wired wideband into ECU. was on baro before. thats now MAP for SD conversion. so now its on O2.
~got into ECMLink, swapped O2 front to WB, simulated narrowband off that. done? i think.
~also reset TPS, and made sure idle switch was off
~FPS to Fan control.... well shit. i fought with this for way too long. couldnt find my answer, well, seemed that what i was looking for should be right in front of me. it wasnt. turns out computers arent my thing. and firmware and software versions are not the same (i knew that), and i was looking in the wrong spot for firmware? anyway. flash new firmware = win. fans turn on at 185* and off at 176-180ish it seems? whatever. also set them to turn off on higher boost/tps/rpm. (20/50/3500 if it matters, open to suggestions)
~and may have narrowed down idle issue. first by plugging in the idle valve LOL. then some other small stuff. we will see. think i needs some battery offset work. doesnt like electrical loads on. also might have battery or something issue. it stone shut off like 2 times, showing 8.5v. after a couple key cycles/jumper cables it would fire off. i cleaned the shit out of all the battery terminals (inside/out, top/bottom). see if that works. fired right off without jump after that. oh when running fine it shows 14.2-14.5v consistent.

and while i was messing with all that, taking breaks to keep from getting pissed off too much, or just waiting for her to warm up for fans to cycle and see if she would start leaking any oil, etc.

making a mess. ripped out the chrome strip. left most all the foam. then take eraser (Astro wheel to be specific) in the drill and have fun. i got most the front bumper done i think. but it was getting dark/cold, have to verify in the light.
also have some new black moldings around here somewhere, ill try to get a pic/partnumber for anyone else. i have only been waiting to do this for like 5years? now.

so. starts, runs, idles (until it has a load on it), and doesnt leak oil. id say today is a win

so, its suppose to snow tonight. so i figured i would test her out real quick before the moment of truth. warmed up a bit, little check threw of mechanicals. drove to get some gas, as im about out of the 3+ month old shit thats been in there. put a couple gallons in, gave her another jumpstart (with spare Nova battery, i really need a jump box for christmas, and probably a couple battery tenders lol). and drove back home.

couple things:
still idle surges with an idle thats little high
yeah, little Honda 151 battery is done. ill have to swing by and get a new one.
big ass difference between driving my Silverado and the Galant lol.
tune seems fine/driveable. just tipped in a little. only 2miles to gas station.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

you know i had the same issue with my JMF and S90, the car wouldn't go lower then 1000-1050 RPMs and the throttle plate was like completely closed. then from time to time it would random idle surge for no reason. like not do it at all that day(3-5 hours of driving) then i come to a stop and it starts to do it. I personally think that had something to do with my ISC wiring possibly going bad, maybe a cracked wire.

Re: 613/2000 update/status/build?

yeah. im going to try to mess with it some more this weekend. maybe take it over to buddies place for another set of eyes.

bought a new battery today threw work. deals. also drove it to work. as the 2wd silverado with shit ass old nearly bald tires wouldnt do well in even little bit of snow we got. Galant obviously took it like a champ, even sticking to my usual backroad drive. AFR's looked driveable the whole way. tipped in a couple times, looked ok. lit all 4 on some compact snow in 1-2...you know to make sure everything is good

so the little Honda group 151R battery lasted 5 years of abuse at the hands of me, and the galant. letting it sit for long periods, killing it a couple times. dead alternator, etc. not bad for a battery have the size of the OE one that should be there.
