808/1000 Hello from MN!

Hey guys, I've been lurking on the site for awhile now, I've owned 1692 and 46. There's three of us brothers. My younger brother own's 46, and the other one owns a white one as well. I thought I could stay away but I ended up picking one up again. Couldn't stay away, I told Paul (Cheekychip) that if I bought the wood steering wheel and amg spark plug cover, I would end up buying a car just for them. Well it happened.

Here's the progress on my car, it's my winter beater and till a work in progress. Input welcome!

mockup OZ Superturismo's, streched 205/50/17's on here, I know it's a tall tire but it's Minnesota. Need that extra rubber for the winter.

Still working on figuring out the height.

thanks! i got the wood momo in hong kong off a jdm gvr4 so it's more the sentimental value vs aesthetics, but it's got an awesome feel to it as well. the wheels were from a local and i thought they'd be a nice different look, rally esque.

It's not as if I have room to criticize, though...

the fanciest wheels that have graced 689 since I got it are from a 1g GST

figured out my ride height, i ran 50 series to get a little more meat for the potholes and terrible roads we have in the winter. come summertime i'll be attempting to sneak some 17x9's and lower it just a bit more. few pictures of it on it's way to the dyno. will be getting it tuned on wednesday, will keep updating!

Nice looking car. I like the Evo wheels but the OZ wheels are a great looking wheel. Seeing all the pictures of another BG VR-4 I am wanting to be driving my car again but blew a tire and all funding is going into the rally galant build and a certain set of great shocks I am buying. Looking forward to seeing more pictures and hear how tuning goes, keep us posted.

what was suppose to be my winter beater rather than drive my g35, is no longer. seems right when it's ready to tackle the snowstorms up here in mn, there's absolutely none but 70-80 degree days. roof rack on, but looks like the snowboard bindings and snow wheels will be coming off and replaced with some summer wheels. tbd. eterna grill installed and waiting for my headlights to be finished.

Update, bought some 17x9 BBS RX's off for a great deal. +28 Offset. Threw them on today and they fit quite nice, I've already rolled the fenders and will be bringing it in for an alignment to make everything flush. Yes, I know I'm stretching 205/50's on these wheels. It's not optimal for performance but this is my daily driver. It doesn't appear that I'll need to do too much to make it fit and I'm sure it'll have the occasional rub.

Re: 808/1000 Hello from MN!

I'll preface my comments with this: I think it looks pretty good. Those wheels look damn good in the profile shot.

That said... [hater] 9" wide wheels for only 205mm width tires? Wow.

And I've spent enough time under these cars to know that your CV angles are probably eff'd right now at that ride height. I wonder what the mileage interval will be between replacements at those angles. Those coilovers have got to be maxed out as low as they can possibly go. Does the car actually have any compression travel left?

Please tell me you actually use that rack and it's not just for looks. [/hater]

Re: 808/1000 Hello from MN!

Thanks much guys, I really like how they turned out. Mark, yea.. I know. 205's on a 9 inch rim. But to get them to fit, I had to. My plan is to see how well this setup goes for daily driving and o from there. If it's too crazy down the road I'll probably just raise it a bit and throw some bigger tires on. But for the time being, I'll feel out this setup and see how it goes. For a stretch setup, the tires are actually quite meaty and the lip isn't exposed, just about right.

Haha, and will I use the rack? Yes. I haven't yet because we never had snow and also cause I threw it on there thinking I'd had it running two months ago. I'll be throwing on the bike rack soon.

Re: 808/1000 Hello from MN!

Looks almost like an 8" rim to me. Just by how much stretch there is (seems like all the 205's on 9" I've seen look retardedly stretched) and how little the front pokes.... especially @ +28.

Can you take a pic of the back of the wheel? Pics of clearance on the inside as well?

That setup looks really good. I like those wheels a lot on the car!

sure, here's a side by side shot and some different angles. not sure if this is what you meant. i'm positive they're 17x9 +28 ET these rims are used by mustang guys often, i was surprised by the mild stretch as well (i didn't want my lip to poke anyway). the comparison short re both 205/50's one's a snow tire tho on a 17x8 and 17x9.

DO IT!

It's well worth it simply from a performance standpoint. You'll be burning it WAY faster than gasoline (typically takes between 15-30% more ethanol to get the same affective burn), but the standard E85 found at most pumps has an octane rating of around 104+. You'll have a significantly higher power output(dependant on tuner abilities, of course), much MUCH lower IAT's and you'll even notice the car running a fair amount cooler including EGTs.

The only drawback is the fuel economy. Like I said, it burns way faster than standard pumpgas, but holy balls is it worth it!

Well a little warning on the corn gas....Around here the tankers go from gas to E85 without cleaning out the trucks that plus alot of the in ground tanks aren't getting cleaned either so guys have been getting the blackbeard inside the runners as well as not getting consistent blends. Might be e60 to e100.....I've personally seen 3 engines that melted down because of it. Pistons look like a plasma cutter had been taken to it. Not just the tops either from the top down to the skirt is gone, rings and all. Most of the guys around here have been buying it by the barrel.

Re: 808/1000 Hello from MN!

That's a good point, but luckily there are TONS of info out there on where the best places to buy E85 locally, at least here anyway. A few of the forums Im on have ongoing e85 threads with up to date testing(the test kits are very cheap, by the way. I want to say under $20)and everything, labelling the station, price, ethanol content/etc....

Maybe it's different here in CO, but I havent seen anyone have any problems on E85 out here, other than fuel economy and so-on. AND, out here 95% of tuners recommend it over even racegas...

Man great job with this car! I can tell aside from me you have inspired a lot guys on here! If you don't mind, what are the specs of yourast wheel including offset?

Keep up the kickass job!

Thanks man, if you're looking for more updated pics, I started a new thread. Since picking up my new ride I've decided to do what I've always wanted my Galant to look like. Won't be a power monster, 16g powered and tuned to be reliable with some exterior mods. Like I said, hate it or love it.

Paul, you're right.. I'm ditching these wheels, going with the 5zigens and getting some meatier tires for next summer. Have a couple more things planned for it. Stay tuned.

Re: 808/1000 Hello from MN!

HMMMM. I dont want to bite your flare idea, but it looks SO sexy. That and Id love to be able to put a decent sized wheel under there. Kudos man the car looks proper.
