How do you disable the alarm?

Everytime I lock my doors, the alarm goes off a few minutes later. Is there a way to disable it?

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

unplug the switch under the hood, its usually the culprit
its on the radiator support, a little rubber button thingy that gets pushed down by the hood.
sometimes the rubber is gone and a little white thing is sticking up.

Is there a fuse just for the alarm that I can just take out. My car almost didn't start the other day apparently becuase the alarm was going off all night.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

What Luke said it right. The most common cause I've found that makes it go off is the underhood switch. If you want to disable it you've got to either ground a wire on the trunk latch or maybe short two of them together. The answer has been stated on here a few times.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

Ground the factory alarm disarm wire in the kickpanel and the alarm will stay disarmed. The wire will meter as a negative trigger when the key is turned to the unlock position in the driver door. Anyone remember what color it is?

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

Thanks for the help. I unplugged the switch under the hood and locked the doors and the alarm hasn't gone off yet. It'll be so nice to be able to finally lock the doors.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

I found this thread a couple weeks ago and it jinxed me. The horn on mine doesn't work, but this afternoon, while buying some smokes, the damn thing started honking all feeble and sickly-like.

I assume the grounding the sensor in the trunk or unplugging the hood sensor are ways to disable the alarm when it's getting false triggers from those points, while grounding the wire in the fuse box is an overall fix, correct?

Thanks. That alarm horn is super gay.

I thought the most effective means of disabling the stocker was just pulling the 2 relays?

Why...just because it blows?

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

Does the factory alarm do anything other than makes noise (starter disable or similar)? If not, I'd think the easiest way to kill it would be to unplug the alarm horn on the firewall.

I've only managed to set mine off once, but I forget how I did it.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

There is a search button at the top of this page in bold. This topic has been covered many times.

Open your trunk and look up at the lock mechanism on the trunk. There are 2 wires going to the lock. These wires disable the alarm when you open the trunk with a key. You need to cut these two wires. Now, splice the two wires together (not the pieces still attached to the lock). This should permantly disable the alarm assuming your wiring is in good shape. I don't know the kick panel method off the top of my head, it's not as easy to remember.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

I have unplugged the button under the hood and spliced the wires in the trunk. Everything seemed fine for the past 2 days until a few hours ago when the dumb thing went off again.
Is there any other way to get rid of this thing? Right now I have my battery terminal lose so I can yank it if it goes off but this causes a prob cuz sometimes I have to get out and jiggle it to start the car. I've done searches plenty of times on this subject and seen about a wire in the kickpanel but I need to know which wire or what else I can try cuz this is very annoying.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

I saw an old post and it showed a relay under the dash and in the pic he has one listed as alarm. If I pull it will it kill just the alarm or other things also? I'm gonna check into my doors to see about the switches in it hard-wiring them if I can't pull that fuse w/o losing other things.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

I have had the same problem for awhile and have been able to find no solution. I have done the trunk wiring mod and the under hood one with no change.

I'd like to find this "main security" relay deal thing as well.

I have taken apart my driver's and passenger's door and unplugged switches and tried some things, but nothing has worked.

I've done the trunk and under hood but not doors yet but it still goes off whenever it wants. Someone hasta have another fix idea or be able to say about the relay or something.

I also need to find this wire so I can install my remote start... and this is what I came up with by searching... anyone know?

Brandon, your car has problems. Maybe they can figure out why your headlights come on when you turn on your left blinker too.

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

LT4mula this is what I come up w/ everytime I search also and so far all I seem to get when I ask is the trunk and hood or someone saying to search like that hasn't been tried 1000's of times....I did find one where hertz had posted 3 links to ways to disable it but the links didn't work. So no solution to fix it though and I've done trunk and hood w/ no success

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

Unplugging hood switch takes care of one alarm. Shorting the trunk wires takes care of another. But neither will resolve an issue with the door alarm system. I don't know how you do that (fortunately my similar alarm issue was related to the trunk).

Hood and trunk fixes will take care of most alarm issues. But some folks do have problems with door switches. So who among the veterins here will step up and help the newbies out on this one?

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

OK, it does look like there is a single wire @ the module that can be cut to disable the system without interfering with the modules other functions.

Before I put it out there I want to try it on my own car first. I'll bring her in with me tomorrow & post up the results.

Btw, my alarm works fine, so no saying I don't return the love (nohomo ).

mine also works fine, but I just have to find the disable wire for my remote start to work... otherwise I'm going to have to hope I can return it. Is the wire you are talking about the disable wire?

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

Got it!! Ok, the pic is under the drivers side of the dash. the silver box is the cruise control module, the etacs module is the one located above it (And impossible to get out without dropping the fuse block). you can however see the harness that goes to it & it is easy to get at (pic 2), open the harness & find the yel-blu wire & cut it(as shown). all functions of the alarm have been disabled.

You still get the security light (green) but thats it.

After you cut the wire insulate it, re wrap the sub harness & you're done.

Now if you all will excuse me I have to splice a wire back together.

thanx IslandVR4...went out to disable the alarm and the dumb thing went off so I let it keep goin off so when I cut the wire it would go off and I would know I cut the right one. It worked so now hopefully that doesn't effect anything else in the car. Thanx again.

Just cut the Yellow w/ blue wire & successfully disabled alarm.

If like me the yellow/blue looked yellow/green to you, it's surely the right guy. There's only 2 yellow striped wires on this harness, the other is yellow w/red.

Good info for the colorblind!

Actually, I have found some "anomolies" on a couple of harnesses, and have always had the best luck consulting the wiring diagram for the system.

It can be found in the library

Re: How do you disable the alarm?

sorry to revive such an old thread, but I figured it would be better than starting a new one. I do have a few questions as well as some info hopefully others could use in the future. First off, I would like to know where the 'brain' of the oem alarm is located? so I can unplug it and perm. disable it. On my 91 vr4 it is not above the interior fuse block as it was for others nor did I have a yellow/blue wire to cut to disarm. I have had alarm and door lock issues on this car since day 1. My solution was to get aftermarket real alarm with door actuators (all of which are already installed and working great) Now the problem is when I lock my doors it arms the factory alarm. I thought about unplugging the oem door lock motors and keyswitchs in the doors but if for some reason it arms the oem alarm I wouldnt have a way to disarm it with switches unplugged.
Now, the 2 boxes I have above the fuse box, 1 of them says omron and has a large yellow plug going into it. I thought this was the alarm, but I have it unplugged with same issues so obviously it is not the alarm. The other box has 2 plugs side by side and it has something to do with the power windows being when I unplug it thats the only thing that doesnt work. Like I said neither of these have the yellow/blue disarm wire everyone is referring to.
Just so everyone else know, aftermarket door actuators are cheap and easy to install on our cars. I got mine at pep boys for 7$ each. Directed part number 524t. They will also work with pretty much any alarm system with 2 relays (look up 5 wire aftermerket actuator door lock relay wiring for diagram) anyhow I hope someone has some insight on this and also hope it helps someone else on down the road
