Which 90A alternators will fit these cars?

I will be headed to the boneyard soon. The boneyard is huge, however I am not counting on seeing any GVR4's.

I would like to be sure that I am not downgrading to a 75A alternator when I pull from a Galant with a different trim. It seems to me that all I have to do for the other trims is make sure that the car is an auto.

Is it that simple? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks!

I dont know what models have 90A stock, but doesn't the alternator indicate how many amps it puts out somewhere on it? I know they do when you get a new one with a sticker..... i think its engraved on there somewhere too.

Also, I was reading...(maybe on RockAuto or Autozone's website) that the alternators are 75A for the manual non GVR4's.

CAPs says the same thing, but in detail it is broken down by drivetrain, motor, etc. 2G NA Spyders have 90Amps as well.

Is it internal? That would be a good idea. I got a canadian alternator off of ebay though so hopefully I am set.

Thanks, I read something about 2G alternators having different connectors though.

Don't believe this. The 75A alternators will work on any 1g dsm & gvr4 as will the 90A. Hence they list them as being able to work on all these cars. If I recall correctly, only the gvr4 came with the 90A unit.

The 90A if you look in through the holes on the back where the heatsinks are has 4 pairs of diodes. The 75A has three pairs. otherwise they look exactly the same from the outside. look for a twincam auto. they should have them stock..

I see you pretty much have this cleared up, but I figured I would put in my $.02.

I found that the Auto AWD E, T, &L all had the 90amp. The reason that I found for this was because of the extra power draw for the tcu and electronics in the transmission. When I bought my first alt from autozone, I bought it for a 91 Auto AWD Talon just so I could have the 90 amp.

Good info, but check this out....

click

Autozone lists the auto as having a 75A alternator. I still can't find the 90A locally
and I am ready to give up and just put the 75A in. I don't want to have to wait for them to order a new alternator every time one blows if you know what I mean. They will get lazy and they will end up not swapping alternators under their lifetime policy.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yeah, They changed it because of the "dura-blast" swap out. Before they had all that, they had a different system which allowed them to source their parts from other reman suppliers. Duralast is all their "own" name brand, but buy their parts from certain reputiable suppliers, which package it in the duralast box.

When I first bought my alternator, it was before the duralast deal, they actually carried both the 75 and the 90 amp on the shelf.
