The clip on my wastegate actuator arm broke and caused the arm to come off. What's the best way to reattach it? I can pull it with my hand, but I can't hold it and reattach it that way. Should I use a vice grips or something?

Some flavor of pliers should allow you to get enough grip to put it back on the wastegate flapper arm. Sometimes it can be a complete pain. I have done it by hand a few times though. Just make sure you have a quality cotter-pin to put back in where the clip used to be so it doesn't happen again. If you don't have a cotter pin, you can use a small nail temporarily.

I usually unbolt the actuator from the compressor housing, fit the arm on the turbine side first, then pull the canister side up to the comp cover.

Quick update. I went to the hardware store and got a small vice grips. That did the trick. I was able to easily pull the actuator arm onto the flapper valve.

Andrew, As you know I have a limited supply of mechanic tools. You would have laughed at me on saturday if you could have watched me struggling with this stupid thing before I called you. I figured I'd buy myself a vice grips since they come in handy on other things as well before I unbolted the wastegate. The right tool for the right job I guess. Sometimes I have to do things as an idiot to appreciate myself when I do something smart...haha
