This is an old, worthless thread I think. There is a sticky in the technical forum called "The Registry"

Yep mines is a 1989 E39A! More info here: carjam

Hey, if you haven't figured it out already the '7A8CJ0J0796011913' VIN number is an additional number the LTSA in New Zealand attach to newly imported second hand vehicles from Japan that don't conform to the 'world-spec' 13 or 17 digit VIN number format - so that's basically any JDM model from the 80s through to the 2000's. The LTSA started attaching these VINs to cars from around 1993/1994ish onwards.

You will find your actual chassis number is stamped on the firewall and is also on the main build plate riveted to the top of the firewall. As your VR-4 is not a USDM VR-4, it is not a limited edition model and will not have a badge number.

No. Your car does not have a 'limited edition bootlid', considering the boot lid (or trunk as they call it) has no mention of being limited edition on the actual limited edition USDM cars. They have a badge on the dashboard and a keyring - that's it.

With yours being a 1989 model it can only be a VR-4 or an RS VR-4, rather than an Evolution or Monte Carlo VR-4, which are probably the only JDM models considered to be built as 'limited editions'.

Yes, absolutely positive. That looks to be a badge from any car which has been slapped on there. Not even the actual real limited edition USDM VR-4s have 'LIMITED' on their boot-lid/trunk.

Take note of where the Mitsubishi emblem is too, that's not in the factory location. Someone has moved the Mitsubishi emblem, so it wouldn't be out of the question that someone has placed a 'LIMITED' badge on it too.

This is what the bood-lid/trunk of an actual limited edition USDM VR-4 looks like, the only difference being the small 'DOHC 16 VALVE' badge in lieu of the typical '2.0i DOHC 16V Intercooler Turbo 4WS' decals on the rear doors of the JDM and AUDM models.

You don't have a limited edition boot-lid, let alone any limited edition USDM VR-4 in New Zealand. End of story. No ifs or buts.
