So I entered 1051 in a street car competition

Yeah, Stu's son drove the Supra.

Katie's WRX did great in every event other than dyno and drag. It was a really well built and clean car. She also auto crosses at Bremerton a lot. That club doesn't use pointer cones in key areas which creates confusion. My car was fast around the course, but a missed gate on every run killed me with a 10sec penalty. Fastest times of the day there were set by a national champ girl in a well prepped Evo.

I think you guys will appreciate the event breakdown when it comes out. The car placed well in a lot of events. The autocross really changed the game for a lot of the cars. I'm pretty happy knowing I had third, and only lost my place due to autox inexperience. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not bad wopper. At least it was a driver short coming and not an equipment short coming.

The Subaru also beat me in value. They took MSRP when new ($21500 in my case) and added inflation. I said they should divide that by current KBB value, but it fell on deaf ears. So I was fourth in that category. Oh well.

This is why I say I think that you guys will appreciate the event breakdown. The car placed well in key areas, IMO. And there are some areas of controversy like power delivery. I was second to last because of my peaky torque curve even though my horsepower curve looked great and took over where torque left off. This will all come out in the weeks to come.

Hate them myself! Would have preferred a section of a dedicated track.

But who gives a sh*t! Well done, Mark! we still love you long time, Dude!

Ah I see, yeah I'm not an autox guy myself and think that they should do a mini time attack or something instead. At any rate congrats on the car surviving (we often don't) and having a great time, it looks like a pretty cool competition and I'm sure there will be some event changes in the following iterations. I can't wait to see the entire break down of how the events were judged, specifically the "power delivery" as I have a hard time believing that the 3052 was outmatched by the tiny sti turbo on that subaru at almost any rpm.

I think this is the feeling that Tim and Stephen get for a moment every year during one lap, then they realize that it doesnt matter, as long as you have fun, placing is just ego, great work man, glad to see you repping a well put together, tastefully modded VR4

Hang on, so, the other competitors had drivers for specific events, were optimizing the tune between each event and if you had a bit more experience in AutoX you would still probably have come in 3rd? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worthy.gif Pretty damn impressive Mark.

This has been an interesting read and despite the fact that perhaps the way they marked some of the events was a bit quirky, I suppose you have to give the organizers credit for at least trying to pitch the competition at street orientated vehicles looking for a broad powerband as against overall power etc.

That said, if those guys had tuners there all weekend, potentially tuning the car for each specific event, mileage, power delivery, drag and auto cross, it seems to go against the grain a bit. Given that the FP3052 from what you and others have said is pretty streetable, if you were serious about doing this again, I would think you could get English Racing to optimize the tune for a few different scenarios and save the profiles in Link. That and a bit of seat time in a cheap car doing AutoX and I'd think you could place really high in an event like this.

Great result anyway in my opinion and it looks like what you brought away from this is that the most important aspect was having a damn good time and making new friends. Can't argue with that!

Owners of cars could have a driver other than themselves, but only one driver could be used throughout the competition. Also, things like tires and brake pads couldn't be changed. You had to run what you brung. But changes to tune were allowed.

That said, I'm not gonna have somebody else tune my car. I can do it myself, and pride myself on the fact that I was the one making changes to my own tune after each pass at the track during the competition. I paid Lucas for dyno time to help me with the initial WOT tune after I installed ECMlink last year because it's difficult and time consuming to tune a pump gas map and then a pump/meth map out on the street. Not to mention sketchy. I'm not one of those guys that just goes out and pays for a tune and needs to take the car back to a tuner anytime a change needs to be made.

I should have lengthened the time the car stays in closed loop for the fuel mileage test. I didn't think the results would be so close between Katie and I. We were practically tied. In hindsight I wish I would have done something to squeeze a little bit better mileage of the car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here is the dyno sheet from Saturday. Pay no mind to the A/F numbers, as those weren't accurate. I was watching my laptop the whole time and they were fine.
