Hey guys Im relocating to Oakland Ca from Washington D.C. And i just wanted some tips of some cool places i should visit along the way. Im going to be taking my newly rebuilt GVR4 with me and I'm excited for this cool adventure. I have a few places i definitely want to hit up on the way there. I just want some input or suggestions of areas or roads i may want to go.

(Im 22 years old so keep that in mind with suggestions)

Cool places i will more than likely go

Atlanta
(Mobile) Maybe on the fence /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
New Orleans /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif
Houston
Austin
Albuquerque
(Colorado) For the sight seeing but it would really be out of the way /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devil.gif
Phoenix
(Vegas) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Not sure. Because i could always go there if i live in CA on weekends. And im afraid of my car breaking down there. In that hot ass sun and i will be by myself.

I just drove my Galant from Boston, MA to Austin TX.

Bring tools, extra fluids, if you have them, you hopefully won't need them.

I hit the Tail of the Dragon in TN/NC, google it if you not familiar. 318 turns in 11 miles. There is a ton of stuff to see along the way. I stopped at the Gibson Guitar factory in Memphis, that was cool. I can't play but I love music.

from Oakland to Vegas is like 8 hours..

im going to be going to Tahoe, maybe 140 miles east of Oakland, in like 4 or 5 weeks with my Galant. you may want to consider taking 80 across and till you get to chicago then head down 65 to 70 go through Indianapolis, St Louis, Kansas City, all of colorado: denver, boulder, vail, breckenridge, seven springs, glenwood spring(crazy fun roads and lots of places to drive right off 70, there all mountain passes up to ski resorts with lots, lots of turns) and then when you get to utah head north on i think 6, to Provo then to 15 till you hit Salt Lake City( same thing with mountain passes everywhere) then get back on 80 till you hit Reno, NV then hop on 395 till you see 50 and signs for south lake tahoe, get on 50 go up the awesome hill make a stop in lake tahoe for some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever seen, get back in the car get back on 50 drive down the hill on one of my favorite roads of all time and head to your new place.

or you can take 80 till you get to Fernly, NV then head south on alt 95/50 till you hit springs silver or maybe silver spring, make a right hand turn onto 50 west. that will take you straight into carson city. make a left on 395, go till you see 50 again and signs for south lake tahoe, get on 50 go up the awesome hill make a stop in lake tahoe for some of the most beautiful scenery you have ever seen, get back in the car get back on 50 drive down the hill on one of my favorite roads of all time and head to your new place.

i have gone a few different ways over the last 12 years and from DC to Oakland this is one of the nicest ways i have ever driven, nice roads, few cops, cost about 500-600 in gas and tons of neat places along the way. this is probably the same exact route i will be taking except i will be stopping in Tahoe.

Yeah ill probably save Vegas for later.
But along the route you were speaking of is it as fun as opposed to going south? Like there are alot of fun cities in the south. What are some good spots going the northern route?

thats awesome, watch out for filmore st. and if your actually living in the city of oakland, make sure to have everything done by dark. you dont want to be walking around by yourself out there. i dont know how it is now but my friend lived down there about 3 years ago and he hated it. said he would have been happier living outside the city and commuting in for school, but he didnt have a car at the time.

edit: also when do you plan on driving out? if im all settled in out in Tahoe you could swing by on your way to Oakland and we could go do some driving.
