Hell if you have a spare alternator, you might to just UPS it to KY.
At least you can stow it in the trunk for the ride home just in case

Good luck. When I bought 1788 from Paul, I used his plates and insurance to get me back to Boston. The 20 hour drive went by without a hitch, save for some grossly unbalanced wheels.

I'd personally drain the oil and have a good look at it to see whether there are any large amounts of metal particles and assess the overall condition of the motor. Doesn't hurt to change the oil before a long trip anyway. I'd probably also drain the tranny, transfer case and maybe rear end for the same reason. I've seen some generally decent looking (on the outside) drivetrain parts that looked awful when the fluids were drained...
