I wouldn't trust my galant to do this job.Constant problems,i only driven it 300 miles in all the time i owned it.Every time i take it out,i pray nothing goes wrong. And it usually doesnt,it likes to break overnight for some reason.

Thanks all...I like the Escort GT for these commutes. Problem is the 4.10 final drive. I can get 35 mpg off of it at 65-67 mpg.

The 5th gear can be swapped out to a .717 5th gear, the throttle body can be changed to an auto TB for 1 mpg and the injectors can be changed to Kia Sephias.

One of the issues with the XFI and the HF/VX is that everyone knows that they are great on gas mileage therefore they are hard to find and the prices are rediculous. I like the fact that the Escort GT engine (BP) is non-interference.

I just wish that the 5th final drive wasn't so damn high! Doesn't burn any oil and I use 0-20 for fuel economy too!

i do the same amount of miles in my gvr4, its suck but i hear ya man have to put food on the table!, suck that my car is racking miles but i look at it as it has to be done. id say (at least what i do) change the oil every 3k, rotate your tires, and pay attention to your tread wear.

Why boo?
My brother had a 1990 Legacy wagon that did well over 180K with nothing more than oil changes and coolant flushes the majority of the time he owned it. It got 28 on the highway (he did drive 55-60 most of the time though) and was dead reliable.
It cost him $1400...in fact, I think he made money when he sold it. Pretty good DD for winter if you ask me.
