I like that idea, Brox, but I don't have an engine in the bay right now, so it's a bit tricky. Thanks for the input, though. Definitely appreciated! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/applause.gif

I suggest a mod change the hosting from my pictures to the GVR4 hosting as they're just on a temporary service now. They will get deleted soon.

@James, you do know you can upload pictures to the site and get that sweet, sweet, galantvr4.org hosting from the get-go, right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Done and done.

Yes, but I can't do that from my phone and I rarely use my desktop so it was easiest to provide the info that way. I didn't think you would want to bookmark it for later.

Okay. So I've got 75 feet of Techflex CleanCut (thanks, Curtis) and I'm looking to get started cleaning up the engine bay harness on 195/2000. Here's what I'm thinking. I'd appreciate any feedback if you think I'm missing something.

Thanks, gents. Pictures as I can. Got a rally to go to this weekend, but I want this bitch running by Christmas.

Since the weather is finally getting back down to something civilized, and I had other rally car prep activities pushed back at the last minute, I decided to take advantage of the day and get those harnesses out of the engine bay for re-working. Also removed the brake proportioning valve and got the front lines cut out of the way to make working in the bay easier for now. (I have non-ABS DSM valve and front hard lines ready to install.)

More pictures (mostly for personal reference when I go to put this all back together later) on Tarmac & Gravel.

Here's the basics and a couple questions for discussion.

This is the harness which passes through the A-pillar on the driver's side. Getting to it is a real bitch. Lots of connectors densely packed into a small area. I'm thinking about re-locating the fuse/relay block inside the cabin, co-driver side. I'd also like to re-route the larger section of leads which runs under the radiator core support to the rear of the engine bay for improved reliability in the event of a front end collision.

Said "real bitch." 195 is JSB right now, so it was easy to sit sort of under the car to do this job, but the roll cage made things a little tricky to reach with both hands from outside.

Back of the under-dash fuse block. I'm thinking I'd like to extend the leads to install this on the co-driver side. How much fun would that be?

Pulling these out (black box = AC condenser, white box = HVAC fan, also, pictured: Techflex Clean Cut recommended by Mr. Curtis)...

Made LOTS of room here (a must for freeing up the harness on that side, bolted down just before the hole in the firewall right of center).

Next up: Can anyone tell me what this is? I always think "SRS/airbag" when I see yellow connectors, but we're talking GVR4, so...

From the same area, larger relay (unlike any others) with its own mounting block. ¿Que es esto?

And what, pray tell, do these guys handle? An odd mix, imo.

Now, some questions on harness mods. 195 no longer has AC and never had ECS, so what do you guys think about re-using the fuse/relay locations here for the pencil, driving, and fog lights? I know the fog lights are already there, but I think I'd re-wire them to prepare for something a little more beefy than the stockers.

And then, what's the story on those round relays? Could they be used for auxiliary lighting?

The writing on the side suggests they might. "12V 22A?" Not quite sure.

I noticed these relays will also work in those locations. Which do you think would be better for some high wattage lighting? Even worth considering? I like the thought of keeping things somewhat together; particularly if these are relocated inside the car. Might end up running breakers instead of fuses in these panels.

So that's the day's progress on this thing. Tomorrow, I might lose the down pipe and crawl under the car to pull the PS rack. I suspect it will be in need of a good cleaning and such. My plan is to get the engine bay stripped down, rebuilt, and ready for the engine.

I hope to be driving this bitch by Christmas.

Thanks for your feedback, gents.

The wire loom? It's made by a company called Techflex. Hit their site for specs, details (I went with "Clean Cut"), then hit up Ebay.

@dewman, currently, I'm running at least five. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Does anyone have any insights into those round relays, the yellow connector box, or that single relay?

Looks like the ETACS box. It controls the power windows, locks, etc.
