Wow. So about 36% of the original shaft weight. So it is much lighter, and now no eccentric loads to deal with. Considering the general reliability(okay) of these motors WITH balance shafts, I'm guessing this setup will be Xtremely reliable.

I use stub shafts in my motors too. I just pulled mine apart this winter after three seasons of 30psi and consistent 8k rpm use and what do you know? It looks perfect.

But Alex...that's just not reliable enough. You need to go the extra mile and use a turned down shaft. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hsugh.gif

The turned down shaft is a good idea if you plan on spinning your motor to 12k. But for the Joe blow on here whos motor sees maybe 9k the stub shaft works just fine. I am still running a stub shaft and have never had a problem. If you want to run a turned down shaft go for it. It works and so does the stub shaft

Well everything is getting installed. The take-out gears (straight cut) have slightly more wear on the inside half of the gear face than the outward facing. To me this indicates that there is some spreading of the gear mesh. Is this common among oil pump gears with or without stub shafts? I'll throw up some pics when I get a chance.
