I'm wondering how many galantvr4s where there ever built,

I can't help feeling like I'm lying when I tell someone they only built 5000.

So how many were built including that 5000 and including the ones built from 88, the monte carlo edition, the rs, the evolution spec, and all others.

Just wondering and looking for a ballpark like 10000 6th gen galant vr4s including everything that was called a gvr4.

ONLY 6TH gen. NOT the 7TH gen

I know there was only 2000 built in 1991, 600 or so non sunroof. And 1000 in 1992. I dont know about all other years, or japan/european models..

That information is meaningless, stating only they needed to make a minimum of 5000. Nothing there supports that number as representing how many were made.

According to the WRC homologation papers over 5,000 Evolution models were produced alone.

jesus,

5000 evolution models alone!!!!

so that's already 10,000.

you think 5000 were made of each trim? INCLUDING ETERNA?!

this is adding up faster then i thought..

Was the galant vr4 sheilded from mass production at all???

or was it just that only 3000 got badges is that the confusion that makes these car's seem like they are so rare?(other than its the bet car ive EVER HAD)

"In order to satisfy the mandatory minimum sales requirements of 5,000 units"

they had to sell at least 5000 units so they made it available everywhere?!

is this the misconception that only 5000 vehicles were made?

You're confusing USDM imports with other markets. They are rare in the states because only 3k were imported. They're not very rare outside of our country.

^ This, 3009 were imported to the US from 91-92, there were plenty more made between 87-92 for E38A/E39A and exported elsewhere overseas. Think of it this way, there were only about 2500 AMG Galants built and not one of those touched US soil.

Evolution is not a trim, it's just denoting another facelift - the standard VR-4, VR-4 RS, VR-4 Monte Carlo and Eterna ZR-4 are Evolution models so long as they are built from May 1990 onwards and are 5-speed manual transmission.

As far as the JDM cars go, the VIN numbers are sequential so the first E39A chassis (simply just 4WD and 4WS, not necessarily a VR-4) would have been E39A-0000001 or something close to that. Mine is E39A-0025xxx and I know they go further up to 003xxxx. Then you've got the E38As (again E38A is just 4WD with no 4WS, not necessarily a VR-4 however as far as JDM Galants go the only 4WD to not get 4WS was the RS) which would go from E38A-0000001 through to some number. Eterna ZR-4s start at E39A-500xxxx.

There were roughly 35,000 E39A and E38A (2.0L 4WD) JDM Galants and Eternas made (based on chassis codes), this includes ~3000 E38A VR4 RS and ~1200 E39A ZR4. ~28,000 are E39A Galants, of which a conservative estimate would be 50% are VR4s.
Ball park figure: 20,000 VR4 and ZR4 from Japan.

From the homologation papers:

Oct 87 - Mar 88: 6,651
Sept 89 - Mar 90: 5,456
Sept 90 - May 91: 5,097

This is only E39A Galant vr4's, so RS's, and eterna zr4's would be in addition to these numbers (pretty sure export spec vr4's such as those that went to America and Australia would also be additional to those numbers also).
