Ebay seats...

Well I am getting tired of being unable to find the front seats of my choice. I am thinking of getting
some ebay front Recaro wanna be seats off of ebay.

I don't really understand how sliders and rails all work...but something gives me the feeling that after buying the seats,
I will be in a real mess and have to spend tons of money on all kinds of crap to make the seats work.

I also like the motorized seatbelts. I know most hate them. Will aftermarket seats work with them?

I know that there probably is alot to it, but I am the type who wants to spend $300 for the front seats and be done with it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Seats are something you really shouldn't cheap out on. Most of the knock off seats aren't very comfortable, they can wear out quickly, and hopefully they hold up if you ever get in an accident.

This answers some of my question, but not all of it. Not to say that it isn't good information, but I was really wondering how much effort and additional money I would have to spend to get the seats to bolt in.

Good question about the belts. Since our belts bolt to the seat on the inside, what are you guys doing about that with aftermarket seats? The ebo seats do the same, so that's an obvious answer (as I have done).

Most likely they will be "universal" brackets so you will need to make them fit. That might require a little work like grinding a bolt hole a bit larger or a ton of work like hacking the bracket up. I would email the vendor and find out if they can give you measurements for the brackets and see how close they are to the stock bolt holes.

The unfortunate thing about buy seats from eBay is that you dont know if you will even like how they feel.

I was able to find some Evo 8 Recaros for $300 plus my seats. Your best bet may be to be patient and wait for a good deal and save in the mean time.

Vinny was able to unbolt the Evo latch and bolt the stock latch from the GVR4 to the Evo seat, so keeping the auto seat belts is still a possibility.

There is a lot of support on here to get the Evo seats in the Galant. You can even have matching rear seats from the Evo, a big plus, IMO.

Do you have an fabrication skills? Chances are there will be some hacking, cutting, and welding to get the eBay seats in the car. curtis is taking care of this work for us guys who decided to go the Evo Recaro route. One less thing for us to worry about.

*EDIT* After reading closer to previous posts, sorry for the redundancy.

Interesting...I must admit that you put me off it a little bit though lol.

Don't get me wrong I am still not a fan of knock off or "Ebay" products. If you are getting something like used EVO seats then go for it, but for 300.00 I doubt those seats are the greatest. Just my opinion.

We had some cheapo ebay seats come through a shop some time ago and they were out on the showroom floor forever. I will say that they were actually really, really comfortable (I'm about 205lbs, and 6' tall) and I was actually quite impressed with how well they were put together. Just a small point of reference.

I guess it's all a bit tricky. I really don't like the way that the EVO 8 seats look. I know that
I am the odball lol, but I really am not feeling them.

Come to think of it, in my Forester XT everyone goes for the STI seats...not me.

On my Protege/Escort GT same thing...everyone ran for the MX3 seats and so did I. Turns out that I hate them.

My girlfriends 2g had a couple companies like Weapon R that made bolt on brackets to put aftermarket seats in her car.

Sadly for us this is not the case, there is no bolt on bracket to put aftermarket seats in our cars. There will be some fabrication involved.

I don't think I could force myself to put WeaponR anything onto either of my cars, regardless of how hard it is to find the same parts from another manufacturer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/uhh.gif

wedge engineering is a small company and make seat brackets for just about any car if the seats come with the sliders- you just have to give them the measurements of the sliders- from hole to hole- and it should work- just give them a call /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with you but this was a n/t 420a daily driver. The stock seats were stained really bad, EBay seats and WeaponR brackets were the most economical option.

I have black leather.vinyl seats in 96, very comfortable and you can get them for 300 at checkers, (mine were a gift) I just went out and bought a big 3/16 inch thick sheet metal sheet and cut it to fit the stock mounting holes and and then drill holes were the seat rails go, to use the stock lap belt I used a L brcket and welded it to the sheetmetal, looks good and still slide back and forth, will snap a couple pics, they better explain
