Door trim paint fading

I'm sure others out here have this issue. I bought the car from an owner in California however the sun did a number on the paint. The clearcoat is almost gone and the door trim is almost completely faded. Does anyone have a method they have used to successfully restore this back to it's original black color? I would prefer not to use spray paint since it's so close to the glass. Maybe a liquid paint and gloss that I could smooth down with a high grit steel wool?

Why can't you mask off everything so nothing gets paint on it and use spray bumper/trim paint?

The fading has happened to just about every 6G Galant I've had, and every time I've hit them with a high quality satin black spray paint. Use some news paper and get creative with some good quality painters masking tape to mask off the windows and rubber seals along with the body of the car around the doors. If you are careful enough you wont get any paint over anything other than the door surrounds.

Well looks like I'll have to wait for a day to spray it then. I'll be using lots of newspaper, any tips for cleaning up the possible over spray?

wipe with acetone, nail polish remover, paint thinner, none will harm the glass

I use the fineline masking tape where I can, and cover the complete car with sheets to avoid overspray drift (i put the sheets in the doors and close them).
