Alternator wiring

I bought a new Beck/Arnley reman'd alternator and my car still only runs at about 13.2 volts max and sometimes even dips down into the 9.x range randomly. I'm thinking it has to do with the black voltage regulator plug because the wires on mine seem to be mangled and burnt.

Does anyone have any idea where those wires on the plug go to? I'm planning on just soldering brand new wires onto it and route them somewhere away from all the heat.

Correct me if in wrong but there are 3 wires going into the alternator. 1 charge wire and 2 off the plug. One wire off the plug should be a constant 12v from the battery and the other should be a ground right??

Correct! And I would address the connectors. What is the standing voltage of the battery right now?

My apologies I did not see the part where he was asking about the ground. Iceman is correct!

It is not a ground. the S terminal is battery voltage, the L is wired through the ignition switch and charge indicator light.

I'm assuming the S terminal is the thicker wire right? I want to re-wire the plug with new wires but I'm at a loss on where to wire them to??

Ok great I just wanted to make sure you didn't have a dead cell or a battery on its way out.

just cut open the wiring bundle and trace it back from the alternator. main wire goes to battery positive and on plug one is ignition relay and the other is the main relay

Quick question! I have an APEXi pen style turbo timer with the volt meter on it and it usually reads around 12.7 volts but when I measured the voltage at the battery with the car on it was 14.2 volts.

Should I trust the turbo timer or just ignore it and buy a legit volt gauge?
