Can anyone give me the number of a quality shop that can rebuild my Alternator?? Preferably one in the Denver area.

But if I can't find anyone around here I am able to ship core...

Also can anyone post a picture of what the Heatshield for the exhaust/DP ect. looks like?? I have a pile of them and...I'm lazy and dont want to try and fit each one till I find it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hsugh.gif

No idea where you should get one rebuilt locally, hopefully someone will chime in here for you.

A few years ago i made the mistake of buying an Autozone unit. I didn't do my research and was lured in by the lifetime guarantee. Guaranteed piece of sh*t is all it was. Went through a few of them, none lasted more than one day. Quickest one went in 15-20 minutes, i hadn't even finished burping the cooling system. Then went to a non-chain local "specialist". That one sh*t the bed pretty quick too. Finally ended up with a greasy, nasty, crusty old OEM unit a buddy had in storage as a spare and it's been trouble free going on 2 years now...Get one from Mitsu or a get a used but known-good OEM (careful, may have been rebuilt with crap parts). Don't waste your time with anything else unless you have some reliable evidence of its fortitude. That said, I haven't tried the Bosch but i recall some people on here having positive experiences.

edit: just saw the "charging system issue" thread over in TD. Some good insight in there. Sadly, it's not easy to come by a rebuilder who uses quality parts these days.

Speak to ktmrider. He knows a shop that does quality alternator rebuilds but down in New Mexico I believe. I'm pretty sure he said there were over 10 rebuilds all going strong after several years, all in the stock DSM location.

Further to ship but I'd go with a recommendation of a solid well known member over hearsay any day of the week.

Nemo we may be able to work something out. I already worked with a member from TX to get him a Start Shop rebuild including a re-wire to bump amperage to 120A. PM me.

I also owe Toybreaker and some other peeps in Denver a visit, used to go up often when I had fambly in CSprings but they're all in NM now.

I'm one of those rebuilds, and I since i have had that particular alternator rebuilt by the start shop in '06, I have had zero issues. Thats with a 90 amp upgrade too.

OK I feel I should chime in here.

I'm not one of these people. I've had to have my Bosch alternator rebuilt twice now. And I bought it new from G two or three years ago when he was selling a bunch of them.

First time the voltage regulator and rectifier went bad. And the most recent time, 2 months ago, the bearings went bad. That caused the brushes to get destroyed. He replaced the bearings and brushes and its been working ever since.

I've had a local guy rebuild it both times at a great price. According to him Bosch alternators are junk and he rebuilds them all the time.

Now he claims he can get 90 amp stators and other parts to convert a 75 amp (dsm alternator) to the 90 amp (galant alternator). As long as the cases are exactly the same. Which I'm almost positive they are. I have a spare 75 amp alternator laying around that I want to drop off and see if he comes through but I haven't got around to it yet.

He also claims he can get brand new Mitsubishi alternators at a great price. He told me once what the price was but I forget. But I remember the price was very low compared to buying one directly from Mitsubishi or online.

If you want a price for a new one I could find their number for you.
