I had a buddy come over last weekend and showed him the GVR-4. He sort of made fun of it (which I was expecting) and wanted to go for a ride. Given, it was nice out, I said fine. So, once she warmed up - pulled her out and took her for a quick spin. Once I hit boost for the 1st time, his opinion changed slightly. I felt the car somewhat sluggish tho, I told him that it felt like it was being held back or something...
Anyways, pull back into the garage and holy hell - do I smell brakes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rofl.gif It was HORRIBLE!!! Had to leave the door open for an hour to get that nasty smell out.
So, I am planning on a complete front and rear brake overhaul since it probably needs it. Time to collect some parts and do it at all at once.
Yes, I looked at the 3KGT brake upgrade, big PITA with 5 lug conversion etc. I want to keep it simple. No, fancy stuff - It's a budget brake upgrade at best.
So, this is the list of parts, I will update with p/n's and such for future reference:
1) Brake Fluid
- I went with ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid. Run it on my Evo's with success.
- Cheapest I found was on extreme psi for 16 bux
- p/n - #20664
2) Stainless steel brake lines (I have a "line" on an used set, else BobDole carries them here, I believe)
3) Rotors
- Did not trust the EBay stuff, so I went for the cheapest performance upgrade which would the PoweSluts...err, Power Slots.
- Cheapest I found these was on AutoAnything.com for $50 for each front, $45 for each rear, 15% off coupon and free shipping!
- Front p/n - 126.46035SR, 126.46035SL; Rear p/n - 126.46024SR, 126.46024SL
4) Brake pads
- Decided to go with EBC Greenstuff. I did read some others using it here, so seemed safe.
- Cheapest I found was on autoanything for $79 front and $68 rears, 15% off and free shipping!
- Front p/n - DP2954, Rear p/n - DP2576
5) Re-built calipers (Need to shop around)
6) Possibly replace e-brake lines as well (OEM via JNZ Tuning)
Question I still have:
Calipers - I see that places online like brakewarehouse, autozone/Advanced/RockAuto has several different re-built options. Does one vary over the other? Any advice? I will try and get one without pads.
Any other advice before I start on this project? Thanks!
