    New Owner of 820/1000

I recently decided to let go of 820. It was an awesome car, but I just didn't have time to keep up with it anymore. Luckily, it went to a local enthusiast who already owns another Galant...So basically from one Galant hoarder to another, which is probably best case scenario. Here are the pics...

Anyone replaced a heater core recently?

The only support provided is by the small bracket and grommets (pictured in the photo you mentioned). If they got tweaked a bit you should be fine bending them back. The weak point is at the core itself where the tubes attach. You likely won't know if they are fucked up until you run the car and...

Anyone replaced a heater core recently?

Yeah, I swapped in one of the aluminum OSC models (OSC 98780) from RockAuto into 820 a few years back. Worked great. IIRC, I had to get new foam from the hardware store, but otherwise it was pretty much plug and play.Removing the dash sucked f***ing ass though. Have fun with that. Make sure...

    removing water return pipe

Lol. Yep, sounds exactly like Steve's work. If I were you, I'd go through anything he touched with a fine tooth comb.Regarding the water line, try using a pair of vise grips after you heat the fitting. Sounds like the line is already trashed, so vise grips won't hurt it. Get them nice and...

Your best bet would be to join any Facebook groups you can find (both DSM and Galant related) and put feelers out there. You could also PM citymunky and see if he has any idea where it is now: https://www.galantvr4.org/threads/fs-1991-galant-vr-4-923-2000-chesapeake-va-sold.13524/

My car in all its glory. Is this savable? (Rust)

This.@Vr4Ape35 Sorry dude, there's no salvaging that thing. At best you could strip it down to a shell and swap parts to something cleaner.

    New Owner of 1837/2000

I don't think so, but then again, I can't say for sure. Most of the fuel system components are pushing 30 years old at this point, so hard to pinpoint where the sh*t in the system came from. I do know, now, what it takes to keep it from getting into the injectors though.Do it soon, and...

Well, I boogered up a 35 dollar seal

Best option. If you've already got ECMlink there's no reason not to use it. With all the information out there, it's pretty easy for most people.Remote tuning is a cheap alternative with ECMlink as well so long as your car is mechanically sound.

Well, it's been a interesting couple months with the Galant.I don't drive the car much, but a few weeks back I started noticing the car was running funny as boost started coming on. I didn't think much of it at first, but soon realized the problem was getting worse. I loathe wrenching on the...

Well, I boogered up a 35 dollar seal

Hell, I wish my first big mistake was $35 bucks. I think I toasted a motor getting my ears wet 🤣Use a proper driver and you'll be fine. The driver is critical, since it ensures good contact all around the circumference of the seal and causes the seal to drive in straight. If it gets cocked...

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Did you boost leak test the car after the intercooler install?
  42. GSTwithPSI

Car cuts off when reaching Normal Op Temps

No, it won't.If there's no signal from the CTS, the ECU may over-fuel during a warm start because it thinks the car is cold, which will lead to a no start condition. But the ECU won't simply kill the engine if there's no signal from the CTS.Go start your car, and unplug the sensor...I...

Appreciate it, guys.I also hope the coverage raises awareness. It would be cool if some of the bigger car media outlets featured more Galants here and there. There are definitely a hand full of clean cars that fit the bill.Being located on SoCal definitely helps, though. This place is car...

Car cuts off when reaching Normal Op Temps

The ECU doesn't have any fail safe features built into it. The ECU (especially in stock form) will run the car bone cold or until the engine seizes from overheating. The only thing the ECU will do to save the engine is pull timing when overly hot or after sensing knock. If the ECU is killing the...
