  1. Noob assistance, VR4 runs poorly with or without TPS connected

Would the excess boost be a stuck shut WG?
  2. New to the forum

Welcome to the board, Kashi! Let's here some more about you and your Galant!
  3. Noob assistance, VR4 runs poorly with or without TPS connected

Thanks for the replies guys. This problem is so frustrating! When I have more time I'll be looking at that knock sensor. I'm an electrician, so a multimeter has been in my repetoire for a number of years. I tested the coils on that idle deal and they all tested at 32 ohms. The hesitation is...
  4. Noob assistance, VR4 runs poorly with or without TPS connected

Thanks, I'll check that. I pulled off all my intake tubing from the filter to the turbo and cleaned everything. There was oil at the lip of the turbo inlet and oil coating the tubes, but there was ZERO shaft play on the turbo. ??? Anyway, I also pulled the stock MAF and cleaned it up really...
  5. Noob assistance, VR4 runs poorly with or without TPS connected

Cool. Is the knock sensor on the back of the motor? Underneath the intake manifold?
  6. Noob assistance, VR4 runs poorly with or without TPS connected

Subscribed. My car does the same exact thing. I just replaced the idle switch and the only difference I noted was that the car doesn't lose idle and almost die anymore. I still have the sputtering issue and high idle though. Does your factory dummy boost gauge peg out under light...
  7. FS: 1992 Galant VR4 #253/1000 $4500 OBO Orange County, CA

Just like mine, it's missing the windshield trim... Wish mine was that flippin shiny though... GLWS! Nice car!
  8. noob

Welcome to the site! I have been schooled myself. We are not DSM's, mostly because we are not Eclipse/Talon/Lasers, but most of their parts will interchange with our parts. That and our VR4's were made in Japan where all the DSM's were made here (this is what I've read anyway). Again welcome...
  9. My VR4 Doesn't Like Being Pushed....

Yes, it has the stock upper heat shield on the exhaust manifold. I'll have to inspect some parts and see about replacing some.
  10. WTB: New or Pretty God Condition Turbo Bolts (4)

    God condition is pretty amazing...lol!
  11. My VR4 Doesn't Like Being Pushed....

I doubt there is a safety built in...if it overheats, bad news for you...Unless my coolant temp sensor is bad, my car didn't appear to be overheating. It was rolling off the heat waves though, that's for sure.
  12. My VR4 Doesn't Like Being Pushed....

That could also explain the hesitation I had in 5th one day that I posted about. I'm sure I have leaks of some sort. It takes a while to bring a car back to life after 5 years of sitting....
  13. My VR4 Doesn't Like Being Pushed....

No, I checked that...Just in case it had slipped a tooth. T-belt was gut-n-tite with nary a groove in it...
  14. My VR4 Doesn't Like Being Pushed....

Yes, stock intercooler and piping. Sounds like I need to run down and do a smoke test. So you guys aren't thinking it's an electrical miss?
  15. My VR4 Doesn't Like Being Pushed....

So I was with my brother yesterday on some twisties and I decided to push the car maybe 7/10th's or so. She was running fantastic until we got to this hill that was maybe a 2 mile climb at 7% or so. When we got near the top all of a sudden the car lost power and started stuttering like crazy...
  16. Bad Coolant Sensor?

Sounds like a bad ground that increases resistance with heat.
  17. FS: Complete part-out 1991 VR-4 1168/2000

Dang, looks like I was too long getting back to you about the fogs. Sorry about that. Glad you got them sold anyhow!
  18. New Owner of #1899/2000

Awesome method grab! Welcome to the site! Besides the knock, it looks like you had the SAME groove in the timing belt like I just had to deal with. Stupid too long bolts in the oil pan....

  23. BarnesMobile

Just wanted to revive an old thread and express my gratitude to Jon Barnes for his awesomeness! I was looking for someone to help me tear the front of my engine apart to replace the T-belt as well as the Balance shaft belt and pulleys. Jon stepped up to the plate and drove something like 250...

Fired up! She's running again! God it will be nice to drive her after sitting parked for a month... Much thanks to Jon for all his help. I could not have done it this first time without him. He's a really great dude and definitely knows his stuff! Hope you enjoyed the ribs and Inversion IPA!
  27. Timing Belt Change Help = Good Times at D's House

Not back on the road yet. Just finished putting the timing cover back on and the crank pulley. Installing the accessories back now. Hopefully another hour and she'll be ready to fire.
  28. Timing Belt Change Help = Good Times at D's House

Got everything torn apart and just finished pulling the lower timing cover. Found a bunch of timing belt gunk and low and behold, there was the longer bolt on the oil pan about a half millimeter from the timing belt in the exact spot of the groove.... Whoever put the motor back together was a...

  34. Timing Belt Change Help = Good Times at D's House

Quoting Barnes: Only catch for me is you'd have to call me 'Chief' and I'd call you 'nugget'.Lol, Nice! I think I can oblige.
  35. Timing Belt Change Help = Good Times at D's House

You guys are great. Wish I was in that part of the country. Would love to meet you all.
  36. Timing Belt Change Help = Good Times at D's House

Awesome man! Most definitely appreciated! Here's to hoping for more people! The more people, the better the party!
  37. Timing Belt Change Help = Good Times at D's House

So I'm back from hunting and all my parts have arrived for the Mitsu so I am hoping to get this timing belt changed and the car back on the road in short order. Therefore I am formally requesting help from any local people here who have time to lend a hand to a fellow car nut and Mitsubishi...

  46. hi there.

Welcome! So at least describe what VR4 you have eh?
  47. Groove in the Timing Belt?

Yeah I'm starting to look forward to getting this done. I go out and start the car every couple days for a few minutes and I have very little fear the the timing belt will go at that exact moment. I am not, however, into carnage so the car remains in my garage on ramps. I'll probably start...
  48. hi im new

Welcome to the forum! "Junior Member" here. It is true that a lot of parts are interchangeable, BUT our Galant's were all built in Japan and shipped here, unlike the "Diamond Star Motors" which were built here. There's a million Eclipses, Lasers, and Talons, there were only 3000 Galant VR4's...
  49. thedsmguy

I'll definitely add to this thread. Met Paul just the other day. He came over to my place which was kinda out of the way for him and brought me a Beck-Arnley starter that I definitely needed. Super nice guy. HUGE mofo! and not in the wide way, Just a big Ogre like he says. Looking forward...
